So I have two bikes (bouncy & hardtail) and want to swap some spec between them (I'll try and explain below). A new 'project for lockdown' wheelset purchase (Mavic Deemax Pro, non-bost, XD freehub) and an overdue need for some TLC (brake adjustment, general lube and creaky noise elimination) has got me thinking of swapping parts over between the two and at the same time planning to upgrade the FS to 27.5 (currently 27.5/26 mullet), whilst giving both bikes a good going over.
Bird Zero HT:
Currently set up with Hunt non boost wheels and 11 speed SLX mech, shifterm cassette; chain, chain ring a Hope 30T narrow wide. (Gears are about 12 months old I think). Fork is non-boost.
I'd would like to take off the SLX stuff and then replace with SRAM GX Eagle chain, XD cassette & 12 speed read mech & SLX 12 speed shifter. Would the 12 speed work ok with the Hope narrow wide chain ring? I'd then have the Mavic non boost/XD hub wheels on the HT and add the old SRAM Eagle cassette.
Transition Suppressor FS:
Currently set up with the SRAM GX Eagle chain, XD Eagle cassette & 12 speed rear mech & SLX 12 speed shifter, as mentioned above. SRAM Eagle cranks & chain ring. Wheels are Hope Fortus 30 non-boost with an MRP boost adapter (fork is a Fox 36 Boost). Rear wheel is an old 26in Hope/Stans Flow with XD hub (which will go on EBay).
I'd like to move over the 11 speed SLX mech, shifter & chain (rear cassette is 42T I think, so will still be able to climb ok for the local steep stuff). I'd then steal the old Hunt rear 27.5 wheel and add the SLX cassette to that. Would the 11 speed chain work ok with the SRAM chainring (especially given that the chain ring has had some wear)
I did look at just trying to get a Boost adapter for the Mavic rims, but the Hope does well on the front of the FS and both the Hope & Hunt wheels have a slightly wider internal diameter, so I'd prefer to keep them on the FS.
Any thoughts on compatibility?
