I've got a 2015 enduro, within the last 6months I've had 4 new or reservised shocks off my local concept store (under warranty) , I keep having the same fault every time , the shaft stays stuck in the chamber (negative air issue?) anyway, the last replacement lasted about 20 min around Cannock before failing. Took it back again and I told them I'm not happy and I want a thief shock, different brand , but they said it's a sram problem . Now before I start arguing am I right in thinking because I brought the bike from them it's there fault and not mine?? It's getting ridiculous now, I've had it fail twice up peaks once at BPW and now Cannock , all the time it's ruining the day and expense that goes with it. This isn't counting the original cane creek that was replaced to a debonair ! Then, to top it off they say I'm the only one that's having the problem. Quick look online reveals a lot of people of having issues with these shocks. My next question is I read that it's down to the horse-link design allowing to much flex on the shock??? Anyone had this issue ??
could be the seal that separates the negative air spring getting damaged but I don't think that would be caused by the bike yoke. The yoke the shock is attached to is what causes problems with the airshaft on these bikes not the actual type of linkage (horst link). To get 4 that are ****ed like that is pretty bad. You could complain to specialized too.
You have a year with the shop I think. Then the new shock is warrantied through sram.
I'm on my second or third Monarch. What pressure do you run?
Tried emailing specialized? I was offered an Ohlins at a discounted rate but chose not to.
You bought a whole bike, you still have the option to reject the whole bike.
Then, to top it off they say I'm the only one that's having the problem
Nope.
Happened to me last year on my Enduro. Warrantied by SRAM and took 6 weeks to get a replacement.
Each time it's takes 2weeks, the last shock they removed the outer can that has the Specialized specific autosag, but after one ride still does same again. Not happy. I run 160psi but I'm light rider 140pounds .
they may have damaged the seal then.
And to be fair the lads in the shop have been ok, it just goes through Spesh or sram. They also advised not having an ohlins on as there very problematic . I mentioned about getting a fox , but pretty sure they only do a ctd shock, no piggy bag equivalent that fits the Specialized mount , could be wrong tho.
I've seen the x2 and float x on the endure.
Yup, I've had isuse's with my debonair too, albeit on a Santa Cruz.
1st Shock lasted 4-5 weeks before developing a notchy feel between the +&- chambers when compressed and the rebound adjuster seized. Sent off and rebuilt etc...
That then lasted another 2-3 weeks before it just seemed to loose all beginning and mid stroke. This was sent off and SC UK lent me a spare shock whilst mine was investigated (no issues with this one in the 4 weeks I had it) and then they replaced it with a brand new in the box debonair which was 13th January 2017. Same as the old one to look at BUT on the box it has written Nomad after all the spec. Apparently is specifically valved for the Nomad??
That lasted until 13th March, when I noticed *lateral play in the rear mount. LBS checked it out and noticed that it was doing the "notchy feel between the +&- chambers when compressed and the rebound adjuster seized" again. So that went back and has been on the bike for a week now. all seems to be OK so far, only time will tell.
The LBS is getting a little P'ed off too as they don't want customers returning every few weeks with the same issues. I'm sure Sram are aware of the issue but have not found a solution yet, maybe its build or parts quality, who knows?? What I do know is that I'm getting P'ed off having to keep taking it back and will be looking for some sort of resolution, whether it be a Sram or Fox shock as a replacement.
If I was offered one of those new air shocks that were over there >>>> the other day, I'd quite happily give one a whirl, what's the worst that can happen??
* - Lateral play is apparently something else and has not contributed to the shock issues and is being dealt with separately bu the LBS/SC
Carlos
This will allow the use of any shock, rather that the spesh specific one

I got a completely brand new unit which doesn't have the auto-sag.
the shaft stays stuck in the chamber
as in the shock basically collapses through most of its travel when you sit on the bike, even though pressure is still ok? If the middle o-ring on the shock body has even the slightest bit of damage this can happen. It's quite easy to catch it when you slide the debonair sleeve on and off.
The notch in travel seems to be a factory supplied fault on these shocks, I've had three and two have done it. I think Rockshox quality is terrible and wouldn't buy their stuff if it didn't come on a frame/bike, I've also had problems with three of their forks.
I would have taken the Ohlins upgrade, running three on Enduros and not had a problem. 650b and 29er, had one on a 26" but got the bike stolen last year.
They are a lot more plush than the Cane Creeks we have had and the Rockshox we have.

When mine went the shock was stuck down permanently. I could let the air out and extend it, but as soon as I rode it, the shock compressed and stayed stuck down unless you let the air out again
I think when I damaged the o-ring mine would very slowly extend back when you got off the bike, but it was basically unusable.
Apparently on 2 of the returned shocks, it's had new seals and internals , and then just keeps collapsing on itself . There seems to develop a build up of pressure as once it's collapse on itself you can't move the rebound dial at all. They haven't even offered the ohlins upgrade yet Tracey but the guys in the shop said not to bother if they do. Can't be any worse than this rockshox tho. Also emailed Specialized uk this morning, waiting to hear back from them as well.
