Crashed my spearfish the other day, not that badly, so can't quite see how the dent happened, but it seems part of me met the downtube. Just wondering what people think? Ignore? Replace? Keep an eye on?

What do you think?

Wow, that's quite a dent. 😯

My head say's that'll be okay but keep an eye on it. I've seen worse ridden unless it's actually misaligned the frame.

I expect the possibility of a little bit of death being mentioned by the STW massive sooner or later though.

Depends how hard you ride it. I would replace. Then again I've had the joy of flying over my bike holding my bars when I snapped a steerer which I'd been thinking about replacing for months....

It'll probably last for years like that, it's not got any sharp creases in it from the looks of it. That tube is not under compression under normal riding, just when you hit something like a wall head on and in that case you probably have other things to worry about.

Downtubes are quite important, hene why they are normally the chunkiest tubes but they are also generally quite overbuilt as they are also the most vulnerable to stone impact etc.

Disclaimer: I could be wrong though and it could fail next time you ride it so it's your risk.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone - think I'm going to keep an eye on it for a bit, and see what happens, in the mean time, investigate the cost of replacing.

Big-Pete - blimey, that's embarrassing, but seems like we've coexisted happily for the past 5 years, so there must be room for two.

Thanks all

P

Keep an eye on that.
But I have a couple of large frames left if you need one.

Downtubes are normally in tension (remember the slingshot frames?) so it should be fine.

I had a Blur that got damaged in a similar way by some baggage handlers.
Rode it for another couple of years then sold it.
It's still going strong now.
