You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Buy a bike part, say twelve years ago, maybe just to bump an online order into the free postage bracket - on arrival turns out it's not needed. It's too small to warrant sending back though, probably be useful in the future, put it somewhere safe.
Twelve years of repeatedly finding those crank bolts while looking for something else, thinking "why did I buy these? I'll never need them". Putting them back in the exact same place, to be found in the same way next time I'm looking for something unrelated.
Finally - I could actually use those crank bolts! Twelve years later, and I know exactly where I'll find them... Can I find the damn things? Turned the house upside down, they gone like they never were.
I have a fair number of duplicate DIY tools based on a similar basis.
"I'll buy this little used tool - it'll pay for itself the second time I use it."
five years later:
"Can;t find it anywhere, I'll have to buy another - never mind it'll pay for itself etc. I'll put it somewhere safe this time. Ah, so that's where I put the other one!"
*repeat every five years indefinitely*
In summary - buy some more and you're sure to find the lost ones.
I don't even need them. I found another pair, in fact I found a whole other BB complete with bolts. But not the red bolts I know are within 10m of me right now, mocking me from the darkness.
