Hi, over in Southport for a meeting Monday morning. Just wondered if there was a quick (1-1.5 hour) loop worth doing, either gravelly or MTB afterwards?

Cheers.

Google Sefton coastal path via Pine Woods & Trans pennine trail

Southport to formby & back loop easily done in 90 minutes & almost all traffic free

Trouble with that route is that you have to ride to, & back from, Ainsdale before you get off tarmac. That's the trouble with Southport; it's all tarmac until you are 6 or 7 miles out of town.

Cheshire Lines/TPT is one way to Maghull with only road alternatives for a return.

Pine woods are OK, but you'll struggle to fill an hour - unless you get lost!

Strangely enough this is where fat bikes are useful - you can ride on the beach for miles and miles.

There are miles and miles of almost traffic free roads, south and east of the town, in the big open farmland area towards Ormskirk. You can even pick up enough vegetables for all next month from the stuff that's fallen of the trailers!

I've largely given over riding in the pinewoods. It's not worth the hassle from dog walkers, joggers with earphones blocking out all sounds and grandparents oblivious to all except their precious offsprings' offsprings.

If you want a road ride I'll take you out for 1/2/3 hours

again Cheshire lines, fisherman's path. are the default answers, there are loads of quiet roads and farm tracks.

I'll be riding round there tomorrow.
