I've done various bits by accident but planning Melrose to Cockburnspath this weekend and a wee bivvy. Does anyone know if its well signposted ?. Once I get onto the lammies it should be fairly straightforward Im guessing.
Any advice is appreciated.
The Lammermuirs isnt really any better or worse than the bit between Yair and Galashiels and Lauder as far signposts go, mostly those wee posts but some are hidden in hedges and undergrowth and can be harder to spot from a distance.
I've ridden most of that route (although not for a few years). From memory it's not great, there's a fair bit of riding through and around lumpy, muddy fields. Worth a go I suppose if it's been dry for a while.
The Southern upland way is good from St Mary's loch to Galashiels, you could even do a detour to take in the Gypsy Glen descent into Peebles then either ride along the cycle path to Innerleithen then pick up the Southern Upland way again. Or you could ride up into the trails at Glentress via Jenny's Brae or Peebles Hydro then head out the back way to Innerleithen.
Lots of choice in the Borders but I wouldn't fancy miles of steep open grassland especially when there is so many better trails near by.
This is quite a good write up.

I've done St Marys through to Longformacus.
Well sign-posted and fine for MTB or gravel.
Bit unrelated but we rode a chunk of the 'steep open grassy' SUW this weekend taking in Wanlockhead and over to Moniave and its the driest I have ever seen it. If the rest of the SUW is in this condition then its a great time to ride it...
