You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi,
Quite fancy giving the SUW a go, just wondering if anyone else has done it?
Is it worthwhile, or bit of a boring slog start to finish?
Any opinions or advice welcome!
Lots of people over the years have asked the same question, no-one has come back and said they have completed it ❗
There is some seroius hiking to be done. There are some wonderfull descents and singletrack bits. There are some awfull, boggy/tusocky bits.
Here`s a bit of vid from Sanquhar;

How long you have got and how fit you are will determine how far you get 😐
General concensus from those who have walked it is to start at Newton Stewart

Great video and photos. Has made it even more appealing 😯
did it all back in 1990 or 91, aint as bad as everyone makes out 😮
in fact doing it this winter 😆 using bothies and fatbikes (pugsleys)
if you fancy something shorter try the Kintyre Way
Living in Dumfries I/we get the train up to Sanquhar and ride back to Dfs using some SupW, natural trails and Ae forest.
For a first attempt I would probably start at Sanquhar, misses out a lot of tough riding/hiking on the West side.
There are probably 7-8 hiking sections between Sanquhar, Moffat and St Marys Loch, maybe 3-4 over to Innerliethen. Some are are as short as 1/2hr, the one from the Daer Res is at least 1hr or more depending on weather 😕
You need to beware drinking from burns/ditches!! Last time we found 3 with dead sheep in them putting us right off and struggling for water ❗
coastkid..

All depends on your fitness and hillcraft tho?
having asthma makes the use of bothies prohibitve for me 🙄
Stopped off in the Pawhope one on a recent ride for some shelter and was ill soon afterwards.
i have only ridden the route in parts in recent years from St Marys loch to its finnish just down the road here at Co-Path and most of it is now ok, very good from innerliethen onwards,
this winter we hope to take 5 days/4 nights and it will be short daylight hours so will be interesting!,good thing is the train down to Stranraer saves car pick up etc...
Good pictures Trekster 😉 Our attempt ended prematurely in Thornhill as I had well and truly run out of puff!! Trekster was ready to keep going, it's tough for sure but an epic ride and very enjoyable.
Would love to do it again and on the HT rather than the FS as well as eating properly on the way.
Thanks for the tips. I live in Innerliethen, so it has to be the SUW.
Think I will plan for an autumn trip, will be able to test ride the parts round here for equipment choices etc.
Time to start hovering over maps 🙂
