Looking for a recommendation of a route for this weekend around the southern part of the Peak District, I’m staying in Mickleover. I’ve seen some routes around gradbach, anybody have any experience?

What sort of route are you looking for? Distance? Technicality? Ease of navigation?

Route suggestion on the bottom of this:

Take a look at the Vertebrate Publishing guidebooks, they have lots of South Peak routes.

There is some around Hartington, which may be closer for you.

You're not far from Ambergate / Black Rocks which is good for a couple of hours

Mickleover's pretty far from Gradbach. There's joy to be found much closer. The white peak book as mentioned above is great and all the gpx are free online (I'll have a dig around and post up later) but most of the White Peak is generally tech free, more scenic than tech.
From the White Peak book the 5 dales ride or the Linacre classic would suit. There's also masses of stuff round Bakewell and Eyam.
.how much tech do you want?
.what distance do you want?
.how long are you prepared to drive for?

Linacre classic was good when I did it a few years back, not sure if some has been sanitised since?

I've always liked doing the 5-Dales route near Matlock... apart from that first climb out from Darley Bridge that is!!

Pretty sure your doing it the wrong way round if you’re riding up Clough Lane (either that or I’m doing it wrong).

I probably should have said 'out from Darley Dale'... the one I'm talking about is the rocky horrible climb just after the steep road section as you come out of the village.

Thanks very much all, ideally I’d like to do about 3 hours, nice and technical!

I've just had a look at where mickleover is and it's horrible. Virtually everywhere in the Peak District is 45 mins + driving. So if that's the case and it's proper tech you want...drive a bit further and drive to Hope (dark peak) and do the ladybower round.
Other thought is...Cannock is just 45 mins drive. There's mild tech and some black on the monkey or if you wanna get off the ground go to Stile Cop.

I live just outside Mickleover and would agree with what Jekyl says. There isn’t anything rideable from him do for the sake of getting in the car you might as well go up to Hope or go to Cannock. Cannock is 45 mins in the car, Hope is just over an hour.

Black rocks ,crich chase , shining cliff woods would be a good 3 hour ride . Plenty of technical natural riding . There are lots of local friendly rides to help you out with routes or to tag on a ride.
