I know this is gonna be like walking into the centre of Paris and shouting "what cheese?" but here goes...

Whats the best route you know in the south lakes?

Ive done both of these before many, many, years ago and i suspect there might have been a fair bit of sanitisation since then. So what have you got thats similar? Lots of fun bits please but not something requiring god like riding skills or mega fitness levels (i know that this is quite subjective)

Would you consider Ambleside as South Lakes?

One of my favourites was the almost infinite variety of routes around Elterwater, Brathay, Little Langdale. Usually finishing by going from High Close down Loughrigg Terrace to Rydal and Ambleside.

All fairly low level, mostly holds up well in all-weather and lots of options.

Used to do it as a night ride quite regularly back in the day...

The Parkamoor Claife heights area and variations of it are one of my favourite rides, as is Chapel House.

There's also oodles of steep techy off piste round there too.

There are lots of best routes in the (south) lakes.

Low level stuff round Grizledale and loughrigg or higher stuff up  like walna scar road or the the nan bield/garburn loop.

How do you define best, what you looking for?

One of my favourites. From Coniston. Got 2 cracking descents on it. All fairly low level and will hold up in any weather barring deep snow.

theres a ride round the duddon valley that was in a previous stw mag, I can vouch it's a good one although a low level route but good if the weather is a bit rubbish

Not limited to South but some good routes here - https://lakesmtb.co.uk/lake-district-routes/

I enjoy this route, (not my Strava but I've followed the route a few times) - https://www.strava.com/activities/8797334816

What time of year? I'd recommend hugely different routes if it's this weekend as opposed to the first weekend in May.

I really like the riding around Blawith Knott - no body about compared to other parts of the Lakes and some vey nice Trail /XC stuff

Unfortunately I dont have routes as tend to follow my mate who has a caravan in that area.

Getting a caravan along some of the singletrack around there deserves respect.
