We're planning to ride from Staveley, so anywhere there or around there would be good, or a bit further into the Lakes would also work (as we might ride elsewhere too). It'll be one van and one tent, and we're after somewhere quiet, chilled out and friendly - no big groups of pissheads. Near a boozer would be ideal but defo not essential. Ta for any tips.
Turner Hall, Duddon. (Not handy for Staveley, though).
What he said.
Hoathwaite National Trust Campsite good also, but may struggle if its a group of lads.
Bowkerstead Farm is great for Grizedale but not Stavely
There’s a camping and caravan club site within 2 miles of Staveley (don’t need to be member to Use) I take the caravan there as it’s handy for kentmere and for this weekends South Lakes Jennride. Showers, pub and serves pub grub
The National Trust one in Langdale is good, and just near the Old Dungeon Ghyll and the Stickle Barn, both good boozers. Side Farm Campsite in Patterdale is also great and right on the Lake for post ride swimming. Neither super convenient for Staveley, but less than an hour away and both with great riding in the vicinity.
There are 2 Camping and Caravanning sites reasonably near to Staveley - one called "Windermere", and the one in Kendal (on the Shap road). I think I camped at the site on Ratherheath Lane about 15 years ago, but that doesn't come up as a campsite on Google Maps so I may be wrong, or it may have changed . . . .
Ive got an event going on this weekend on the cricket field In Staveley feel free to camp Toilets on site, showers in Wheelbase throw a couple of quid in the bucket 🙂
Failing that end of August this happens www.southlakesbikefest.com and its quite good apparently
