have a soul frame and just got a pair of uturn rev maxle lites. i have 2 options forks onto the soul and run around 120 most of the tme maybe upt ot 140 for some of the downs in the lakes. anone knwo what the head and seat angle will be with a 140fork on the soul. 70 is given for 100mm sagged 25 mmm so i guess 140 saged 35mm would be about right
or sell frame and try a blue pig frame, a lot heavier but would suit the 140 fork.
anyone riding souls and using more than 130 onthe downs and if so how does it handle
ta
Well, you know it's not supposed to run over 130mm, right? But I figure if I don't tell anyone, the gods of frame snapping won't know. And I weigh as much as a packet of crisps so that helps too.
Just done the same as you, 140mm maxle rev uturns on an old model Soul. It works very, very well... I don't really miss the 100mm setting, 110mm still climbs very well. I reckon the Soul can do pretty much anything it wants at 130mm but at 140mm it's a wee bit more specialised, happier on the downhills with the extra slackness but not as sharp or as accurate. So, I keep that in reserve for steeper stuff, I still run 130mm as my everyday fork length. Very happy with it.
Course, the new Soul is rated for 140mm but that's a big expense. Less of an expense than snapping the one you have!
I've been used mine at 140mm with pikes for ages now. Lakes, Peak, drops etc.
I like it. I never wind them in. Just make sure your bars are not too high.
HA is 71 degrees at 440mm axle to crown length (470mm a-c 100mm fork sagged 30mm) on the 'old' Soul (I think?)
As an approximation the HA slackens 1 degree per 25mm.
I wouldn't worry about the seat angle as you can get that back to correct position quite easily.
70/73 is based upon a 100mm fork sagged 25%
69/72 is based upon a 130mm fork sagged 25%
Given that logic, would suggest a 140mm fork with 25% sag is going to give you a head angle around 68.7 degrees, and a seat angle of approx 71.7 degrees... Or therabouts anyway.
running 140 will invalidate the warranty (if you still have any).
cy has posted several times that any resultant damage from this is easily recognisable...
as above the new Soul (with gussets to hold the head tube on) is due Nov sometime.
the new BFe looks nice and can run up to 160mm and is only £370.
FWIW I've run pikes but only ever 110/125 as more than that I thought interfered with the ride (and it was wandery - but then my saddle was jammed as far back as possible on a layback seatpin)...
Good point about the warranty - however mine ran out years ago.
