Plant X Al30's currently on bike...which are actually really good.

I like idea of some custom builds.

Looking for a light rim, good hubs (anodised red...)

So, some of the better Novatech hubs with what rims and spokes?

75kg rider so no need for heavy duty I think.

Velocity a23?

Got the same problem at the moment and think that these rims look pretty good for the money, and not quite as breakable as stans 340's

Just built some Kinlin xr300 rims on planet x pro hubs with cxrays as a summer version of my al30s. They are quite lovely 🙂

What do you want from a set of wheels, personally i am planning on building up a set of Campagnolo Daytona hubs that i have in the spares box with ambrosio excel-lights. Won't be exceptionally light but will be respectable.

Hi,
Sorry to send the thread off course. So Stans 340 are fragile? Thinking of building some of these up on Hope hubs! Any experiences?
Thanx,
Max

Stans 340's are too flexy and light, ok if you're a fly weight. I have one on a 32h Hope hub and whilst it's stayed straight it feels very 'whippy'. Apparently the 400 is a lot stiffer. I 'think' I have a Velocity A23 on my power tap prebuilt wheel, If I do then I recommend that as I'm 84kg and it's stayed nice and straight, it's stiff and also it's got a good internal width so it gives a good profile to 23mm tyres and makes them more like 25's just like the stans rims.

I've just this week ordered some new road wheels for the same kind of reasons, though I only weigh 11 stone. Wanted decent wheels, but not silly light or fragile which would be easy to repair. After research, I've gone for hope pro 3 mono on Velocity A23 rims with DT Spokes, 28h front, 32 rear with brass nipples and both 2 cross lacing. I think that should give me what I want for just over £400.
A23 rims sound a good choice, wider than some to give a more tubular tyre profile, while light and about half the price of a Stans rim.

from what I've read the new stans rims are a bit heavier (385g) but a bit stronger, but still maybe flex a bit if your heavy/hard on kit
