In 29er flavour.
Is the 2.35 Minion actually wider that the 2.3 Razor?
Also, which one is less likely to get sliced up by flinty trails?
Want a fast rolling, rear summer tyre basically and narrowed it down to these.
Sorry guys, be gentle! 🙂
Rockrazor almost certainly wider- the SS is I suspect fairly undersized, could check that tonight, the Rockrazor maybe over. Don't know about flints though, the EXO isn't massively tough but it's been fine for me.
Flinty trails - trail boss in tough fast casing is a good option.
I've used both. RR is definitely wider/taller with a larger overall volume. I think (no real evidence) that it rolled faster as the edge knobs don't contact as much as the minion when the bikes upright.
I used the standard snakeskin RR for the ard rock enduro so it coped with my 105kg on some nasty terrain. Procore and stans sealant definitely helped. In my opinion the minion feels/looks a bit more resilient but i've yet to truly test it out on the same terrain as i ran a RR through.
Interesting... Thanks for info guys!

It'll be run on a 25mm inner rim so that should result in quite a nice curved profile on either tyre I hope? What size rim did you run on ard rock with the RR, dizcostix? Im similar weight when kitted up too. 😉
(Not a fan of "flat" profile tyres really)
Oh, anyone got the link to that German site with all the tyres measured for true widths?
Cant find it, doh!
Isn't the Minion SS actually a claimed 2.3 and the Rock Razor a claimed 2.35? And the latter definitely a fair bit wider, as with all recent Maxxis vs Schwalbe sizing.

This, on both scores.
As nobeer says the WTB Trail Boss tough is a good choice too, not as outright fast as a RR, but slightly more knobbly. I find the 2.25in more than adequate but it comes in a 2.4in as well I think.
Cant register on the German site to see results unfortunately.... get a 400 error on 2 browsers. 🙁
So, width wise the Schwalbe is definitely the wider of the 2 in though RR is supposed to be 2.3 and the SS 2.35?
Doh, its revered... the SS is 2.3 and the RR is 2.35!!
I stuck a caliper on my SS, on a 25mm internal width rim it's 2.2 inches at the knobs and 2.27 inches at its widest spot on the carcass. So only marginally undersized but the narrower tread makes it look and seem more so. It's pretty square on the 25mm so won't lose or gain much tread width on a different sized rim but will gain a bit more carcass width (not always good)
Wee bit surprised tbh, I thought it was narrower.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that Maxxis measure their tyres at 60 psi which is why they come up small at typical riding pressures.
Re riding a Rock Razor over flints, I rode a Rock Razor Evo with the Snakeskin casing and Trailstar triple compound on several trips to Bike Park Wales last year and it held up pretty well. I didn't get any cuts in the casing, only one burp, but it did bleed sealant through the tread area, but still held pressure. If I was regularly riding over rock and flint I'd consider the Super Gravity version.....more protection, but more weight.
