You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi, I've been away from bikes for a while due to family/work commitments and other hobbies so i'm not really sure what's what in bikes at the moment so I'm sorry for asking for advice on tyres.
I'm in need of a pair of tyres for using on local trails around my home in Nottinghamshire. The terrain is fairly flat with no big descents or hugely technical stuff. It's more farm tracks, gravel roads, woodland singletracks and that sort of thing.
I'm looking for a pair of 26" tyres that will be suitable for most of the year (deep mud is sorted with another pair of tyres I have at the moment as it trips to the peaks or lakes with bigger tyres). I suppose they'd ideally roll fast, grip well in the turns and be useful in spring/autumn when it's a bit wet under wheel but not totally gloopy. Oh and they are ideally under £30 a tyre.
So what should I be looking at?
Nobby Nics or Ardents
these are a good all rounder...
Are the ardents fast rolling?
I had some nobby nics about 6 years ago so they might be a choice.
Didn't know Ritchey did tyres now. I suppose it's only a matter of time for bigger brands like them.
Ardents roll pretty quick, I use one on the rear through spring summer and as much of autumn as I can get away with!
So I take it the Ardents aren't the best when it gets a bit damp then?
Any other suggestions going?
Maxxis Minions, they are my all year tyres.
Ardent is fine in the damp on the rear, and if you dont have much gradient locally would be fine through most of winter. Wouldn't trust one on the front though, minion or hr2 for the front
Really happy with my Hans Dampf / Rock Razor combo - works on my local Northants stuff (sounds similar to the OP's trails) but has also worked for me in The Peaks and Wales on bigger stuff.
