Canyon £3060

Cube £3346

im 5"7 75kg

The Cube is lighter but has a short TT so i either get a 16" and put a longer stem on or get a medium and have limited standover/ run reverb at half mast
the cube is £286 cheaper

Canyon looks to have a better Geo, its 1KG heavier

Note: Iv no problem with buying direct i have had several Canyons and you can always send them back 🙂

In typical STW style...get a Capra.

That cube looks awful!

Cube geometry is really weird. Very short top tubes and long (proportionally to the frame size) seat tubes. Canyon used to be like that but they seem to be moving more towards the 'long and low' camp now.

Germans must have long legs and short torsos.

It sounds like the Cube simply doesn't fit you, both sizing options would lead to shit compromises

I have the Cube, i love it. However i went 1x10.

Its a v competent bike. I havnt ridden the Canyon, but it looks great too. I doubt i could tell the difference in a pepsi challenge.

I ride a 18 with a 50mm Gamut stem. Im 5"9 and can use all 125mm of my reverb

The cube doesn't fit, looks nasty, and costs more.

No brainer for me, the canyon is lovely.

+1.
And I'll add that it has better forks, better shock, better wheels.

Whenever I change my bike, it will be for a Strive or Spectral.

Amazing amount for the dough and fantastic looking bikes too, which shouldn't really matter that much, but let's be honest, no one wants to ride a minger do they 😉

Strive CF 8.0 owner here. The shapeshifter thing is actually quite good. I was rather dubious of it at first but after a handful of rides, I'm sold.

FYI: The standard Strive CF Medium frame is identical to a Small Race frame.

Can't comment on the Cube, other than I couldn't live with that lurid green colour. But they are meant to ride very well.

Cheers guys, a Think I'm convinced the Canyon is the right choice, I was concerned about the weight but I'll just have to MTFU

what bike is this one replacing, and why?

It's replacing a 29er XC so it's a whole new direction, it will be used for everything from uplift to MTL

Now I need to decide wich geometry to get (first world problems!)

AdeC: have you weighed your bike ? Just wondering if it's near the claimed figures ?

Also what do you use it for ? Is it ok for everyday duties or does it feel a drag ?

Hey Womp. D'ya know, i've not weight it yet...whats wrong with me! I'll stick it on the scales tonight and update this thread. Bear in mind i've swapped the dull Canyon handle bar for a Renthal carbon and i've put on a set of ti/mag flat pedals.

I've always ridden long(ish) travel bikes, so to me it doesn't feel like its a drag. Its a very different animal to a 29er XC bike. However, the shapeshifter and the 'climb switch' on the CC Inline shock make a big difference to climbs and flat fire roads. Modern suspension really is very good indeed.

I've only had it a few weeks and the trails have been a little snowy but it feels better in every department than the Specialized Pitch it replaced.

I swapped the XT shifters mounts to ispec-B which required a cable change and was pleasantly surprised that its really easy to change an internally routed cable on the Strive. The only downside I've found so far is the wheels are bolted and require a 5 & 6mm allen key to remove them.

Cheers!

Update: the medium Strive weights in at 30.5lbs (13.83kgs) with pedals and a carbon bar, so their quoted weight is pretty accurate...if you trust my scales, which cost a fiver.
Cheers.

Hi womp. Good decision to go for the Strive! Ispec-B shifter mounts allows you to mount the XT shifters directly to the XT brake lever clamp.

The main benefit is it makes the handlebars look nice and uncluttered, but it also drops some weight as you lose two rather chunky XT shifter mounts and bolts.

Am envious..

The strive is pretty much the only bike I lust after. can't justify buying one as never use my big bike as it is.
