My go to was 1000mg vitamin C mixed with some sort of paracetamol.
But the best i found was Difflam oral rinse. I think it might be prescription but I'm sure you could get hold of it easy enough.
I suffered every 2 month pretty much, sometimes more with tonsillitis until i had them removed 4 years ago at age 30.
Summer funerals are really difficult to dress for, see if you can hang on until the autumn at least.

Hot water honey and whiskey. (any excuse!)
Apple cider vinegar, from a health food shop is the best tasting but the supermarket stuff will also work. Neck a capful or 2 then drink a table spoon in half a pint of ice cold water whenever you can.
If you've had a sore throat for more than two weeks get yourself to the doctor!
Mine turned out to be cancer, a minor op, 6 weeks of radiotherapy and 2 sessions of chemotherapy seem to have fixed it though.
Sore throats make me very nervous now though.

If you don't like apple cider vinegar, you can get the same effect with orange squash. Or just water.

A couple of rounds of burnt toast to scrape off the poison. You know you want to really.
I started using Vicks First Defence a couple of years ago and it certainly seems to work.
As soon as you feel that tickle or sore throat, start taking it along with paracetamol etc and the cold never really gets you.
