been looking at this. Definitely miles ahead of the Motorola Defy phones and Sonys older rugged Experia.

Or you could go with the Runbo X5 from china with it's built in 400-470mhz radio: http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/15/runbo-x5-x3-x1/

Specs are actually pretty good but it isn't small. About $300 direct from China.

ahh that is the one that I think has that hydrophobic coating applied. Was a thread the other week about it. you put the device in a machine that coats all the internals and makes them water resistant.
