This looks such a sweet hardtail.. How quick & efficient is it ? general handling ? and what tyre would you run (thinking of a 2.3inch)

thanks

Seems pretty quick and efficient. It’s not an Xc weapon, but goes well. Its long, low and slack enough to feel very capable, but without going too far into gnar-land. I’ve got a 130mm pike on mine. I rode strathpuffer on it, and a fair few other rides. I’ve run 2.6 and 2.4 tyres. Both work fine. Plenty of clearance.

Put the biggest tyres you can get on !

Its in its element on steep rocky trails

I've had mine since September. I've got 2.6s on front and back. With these tyres it runs like a short travel full suss. 2.6 gives you acres of grip and comfort. I think this is a really versatile bike. I use it alot at Leeds Bike Park and it really is fun to ride on those trails. The first time I rode out locally I blitzed some of my downhill times without really trying. The geometry really works for me. You always feel like you're weight is balanced in the middle of the bike irrespective of the steepness of the descent. I run mine with a 130 Pike which is superb. It does feel slightly more sluggish on the steep uphills than my old steel XC hardtail but it is a different beast. I wouldn't swap it now. This is a hardtail that you can play on at your local bike park and take it to the full sussers or power you on all day epics in the Peaks or the Lakes. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

I’ve had mine a month, and I love it. I had a Stanton Sherpa before which was superb.
The Sonder is lighter and slacker. Seems faster downhill and climbs as well as the Sherpa. I run Kenda hellcat tyres. 2.6 front, 2.4 rear.

It’s fine with 2.4 tyres. Got 2.4 both ends on just now. Only difference is as you’d expect, a bit less squish and grip, but a bit zippier due to lower weight (the 2.4 on mine are more xc tyres for the ‘summer’ than the 2.6 Mary, HD and NN I’ve had on before)

I demoed one from Ambleside - 2.6 tyres. Thought it was ace. I really want one but would mean selling my Orbea Occam. Anyone replaced a full sus with one? I’ve just bought a Broken Road for xc/bikepacking duties.

I got a frame 2 months ago and built up with 130 Pikes and Super Duper Blue Flow Carbon wheels(bloke on here- ace to deal with) running 2.35 Magic M’s soft front and 2.35 soft NN’s outback. Huge mud clearance with these.
Makes me ride fast and beyond my abilities.(over bars last week) whilst laughing and I definitely a wheels on ground type. This bike loves to be ridden fast and naturally gets air.

How does it compare to a full sus on technical trails?

I have Pivot429SL to compare it with. Sonder is slacker wider and more solid down rough stuff, so would take that on a steep technical ride with mates. However enjoy a few long rides up to 100 miles and the 100mm 29er FS is the best for that. You want comfort and roll ability then.

alpkit are a very good company to deal with. Phones answered, silly requests like “ can I have a spare Hanger” all dealt with, speedy postage and very well wrapped up. Customer service is top notch from my experience.

I've got one and really rate it. Running DHF/DHR WTs. It's definitely slower than my FS in the rougher stuff but not that much. All my mates have gone down the Solaris route and they aren't any faster (comparatively). I'm riding a 140mm fork and haven't died yet either.

Sonder are opening a new shop in Dorking (surrey) in the next few weeks and should have a few demo bikes in stock (this is what they told me yesterday).
