Hi

I've just purchased a Sonder Cortex (frame only) and am currently building it up. It looks like it's missing the cover for the internal routing cable exit port at the bottom of the down tube - there's a rectangular hole and a tapped screw hole that looks like it should have a 3 port bung, but I don't seem to have one - should there be one?

I've dropped Sonder a mail but not had a response as yet - I'm now the point of the build where I need to connect hoses / cables and if there should be a cover and I have to disconnect everything again I'll be miffed!

Thanks!

Jon

Can't say for certain on the Cortex, but my Evol has a port exactly as you describe.

@momo - great, thanks. I would imagine the frames are similar enough in spec that the ports are the same. Are the holes split so you could add it later, or do you have to feed the cables/hose through which would mean I'd have to disconnect everything?

Do you have anything like a cable guide on the bottom bracket? There's a hole there which could be a drain hole or it could be a locating pin for a cable guide - it's very hard to tell if there is one from the pics!

No not split I'm afraid.

That's just a drain hole, I've applied some 3m mastic tape to the bb shell to try and stop the cable rub (my frame was second hand and already had some scaring down there) but the rear mech cable has already eaten through that. Playing with cable ties to try and hold a decent loop in there now.

OK - thanks. I'll have a chase of Sonder tomorrow, or will have a look at making something myself. This build seems to have been going on forever so don't want to delay it any longer!

If cable rub looks to be an issue I'll have to try and sort that out as well - could look to get a plastic cable guide and sikaflex it to the frame..

Probably too late, but to confirm here's a photo of my Cortex - solid bung. Only had it a few months but no cable rubbing obvious - cables all seem pretty tightly installed.

Thanks - that's really helpful. Are there any other plastic bits or stuff that might be missing - I got the bare frame (no shock), rear axle, grub screw for one end of the axle to hold it in the frame and bottle cage screws. Just checking that there's nothing else that should have been included - the top cable routing ports are metal and don't look like they should have rubber bits in as well.

Sonder haven't got back to me despite chasing a couple of times via email, but they don't seem to be the most organised bunch 🙁

I might try and make a cover out of a rubber grommet. At the moment I'm waiting for a longer shimano rear brake hose as the standard length is slightly too short, so it's all going to have to come apart at some point anyway. I ran the cables/hoses inside a camelbak neoprene hose insulating sleeve to try and stop any rattles so it'll be fun to try and replace the hose with that in place..

BTW - did you strip and grease the bearings when you got yours, not sure if it's needed or not?

Nothing that comes to mind (mech hanger isn’t on your list but assume it should be!), but will take a look tomorrow. Top cable ports don’t have grommets and are pretty big - I have a couple of cable ties stashed there.

I didn’t strip and grease the bearings, keeping a hardtail around for now too so it shouldn’t get too much punishment in winter, but will see how they last. Haven’t heard of any issues so fingers crossed!

I would say that the paint doesn’t seem the toughest and there a few chips in odd places, but it’s been fine other than that so far.

Try giving them a ring, I got through straight away when I had a query. I think they’re pretty busy, and disorganised as a consequence - a month ago they emailed to say they were sending me a missing bottle cage (that I hadn’t ordered!)
