If I was thinking of getting another bike (I'm not honest 😀).

Should it be a Sonder Camino or something else? I want something for road and easy bridleways. Probably £1200.

I'm expecting delivery of an orange speedwork this week. Same but different. I hummed and hawed about both for ages.

You turned into a Sonder fanboi?

I’ve been hovering over the buy button, tell yours isn’t mint...

Im in the owners Facebook Group and everything...

Yeh, they are mint, my only regret was waiting as long as I did. It’s hard to really comment on other bikes of that type not having ridden many, but going from a Kinesis Crosslight to the Camino was quite a significant change for better. Comfier, more fun, more confident handling, better with luggage.

Front mech placement looked like an issue if you want to run 2x although I didn’t spend long looking at how to get that to work.

No, I meant Mint (as in colour ye numpty) 🤦🏼‍♂️

Or did you go ti again?

(I’ve been looking at GRX).

Mine's pink... and so's the Camino. Arf Arf.

Mech placing for 2x is a bit of an issue as the lower bottle cage mount is where your mech band wants to be. I placed mine above so the cage sits maybe 10mm above the big ring. Works fine.

Does anybody else catch their heels on the seat stays?

FFS 😂

Nah, that wasn’t a colour option. Either grey or red was the choice, I went red. No Ti, I did “want” Ti but works bike park is a regular target for Scrotes.

I obviously regret that on a daily basis.

What wheels? 700 or 650? I'm thinking 700 because I do so much road.

I had a Cotic Escapade and could never get comfortable on it. Demo’d a Camino Al and was pleasantly surprised at how good it felt. I bought a cheap ex demo Camino Al in boggo spec, slowly upgraded a few bits and recently traded up to the Ti frame.

The Ti frame is lovely, but TBH, the aluminium rides really nicely for a Alu bike. Only thing that are a bit duff on the full build bikes are the Love Mud wheels, which are heavy - but not too bad to live with if budget limits future upgrades.

Oh, wheels. I’ve tried 650 and 700 on my Camino and prefer the 700s for tarmac and smoother off road stuff. Ended up flogging the 650s to put towards Ti frame! 😁

I have both, Hunt 4 season gravel wheels. so I can switch between "road" tyres and "off road" tyres easily. Had a toe wheel moment on the 700c which has made me think of selling the 700 and getting another 650b wheelset

If you want to fit a front mech to a Camino you need an adjustable mech clamp M part sell one.

Just built up a Camino AL. Really impressed, especially given the price of the frame (£250 in the sale). Did a 2 x GRX800 drivetrain (the best way to go if you do road IMO) with Ultegra brakes. Have both 700 and 650 and like both. 700 for road based riding, 650 with 2” tyres for rougher stuff (still pretty quick on the road!). I used a dremel to grind a little bit off the Shimano band to allow the front mech to fit at the correct height (48t chainring). It’s an excellent bike for the price and I think you would need to spend a lot more to get better, such as a Mason or Fairlight (both cost more for the frame than my whole bike!). Still, I can always upgrade the frame and transfer my components across to it once I’ve proven the concept works!!

I’ve got a mint Camino or order. Can’t wait.

Tell me more. I am planning to run 2x10. Front mech currently is a high clamp XT one. Will that work?

Did you see my recent review? https://singletrackmag.com/gritcx/2020/06/09/sonder-camino-al-miles-of-comfort-and-fun/

Summary: it’s very good. I wish I could buy it.

Sorry, not necessarily...

Liam1974 (presumably) means a clamp on band that replicates the tab for braze on mechs. You can place the band on tab above/below the lower water bottle boss and adjust mech height as you do with a braze on mech.

I was going to go this way but already had a band on mech. I placed it above the lower boss. The mech cage is about ~10mm above the bigger (48t) chainring but changes just fine. I was going to notch the band as ginkster above but dint need to in the end.

Anyone built one of these with a flat bar? Not a massive fan of drops...

I mean, at what point does it become a flat bar bike? I'd say that setup has more in common with a Jones-style 'flat' bar than a racy drop bar position. Not my cup of tea for the riding I'll be doing on mine (>80% road) but I appreciate many will be using these for mostly off road jaunts.

Whats the headset needed for a Camino? Is it one that needs to be press fitted or one of those integrated ones you can just drop in by hand?

Just preordered a frame, I've a ridley x trail carbon that I had two sets of wheels for but found I never bothered putting the gravel wheels in and just tend to ride it on the road.
will be build with grx front double 30-36 and 11-36 cassette, 105 hyrdo shifters and some flared bars. I'mm guessing will either really enjoy some easy offroad on it or it will be up for sale and i'll just use the hardtail!!

Currently got one on loan. Not sure I like it yet, getting wrist pain (usually this when the fit is not correct).

I'm wondering if it is the flared bars, will try again tomorrow.

@bruneep you bars look like the are rotated up? I normally try and get the hoods perpendicular to the road.

It’s IS42/IS52 so drop in bearings. No cups to be pressed in.

still very tempted by one of these, shame they're out of stock though, not sure how likely it will be to get one in time for summer rides.
