I posted recently about the potential of the Giant Toughroad, drop bar version. The bike spec made a lot of sense for the kind of riding I do, and had some great feedback from this forum. The Sonder Camino Al has also caught my eye and seems better value for money, particularly with the groupsets and disc brake setups on offer. I won't have the funds to buy the Ti version, so the Al it would be. I vaguely remember a previous thread on version 1 of this bike, is there much difference with version 2? Any views on the bike and riders pictures would be really helpful. Would like to test ride one, but its a fair trek to the Alpkit stores, so looking for positive views to be sure! Thanks Forum!
Anyone this evening?
I've got o e of the last Version 1 builds, very pleased with it. Probably the most comfortable bike of this type that I've had for gravel/light trail duties , very comfortable on normal roads as well no doubt helped by the 47mm WTB Byways. Although they were a complete and utter ball ache to get off the rims to go tubeless, but well worth the effort.
They used to be great value for money, but now prices have gone up they have clearly sold out and are not worth buying from anymore 🙂
That full build up there ^^^^ was less than £700 which I thought a bargain, not had a look at the V2 prices though. 🤷🏼♂️
Love my V1, wife loves hers too. We pre ordered ours back when they launched them. Bought frame/forks only though & built up.
I have 650b (WTB Horizon) & the Mrs 700c G One.
Have commuted, full on toured with racks etc, bivvied, used as winter road bike with full guards & ridden centuries, SDW etc....
Versatile, comfy, not that light but my fave bike.
Thanks for the feedback and photo glad to see the version 1's are riding well and showing their versatility! I need a go-to bike that can be adapted during the season, the older colour schemes work well, just a bit unsure of the new primer grey and cherry red. The flared bar is unusual too, better for stability and comfort? I like Alpkit, bought some lights from them recently, well made and great value. The customer service is excellent, hope it continues.
Don't have one but it was on my shortlist and a friend owns one and likes it. Seems like a versatile frame and good value. The V2 colours are an improvement over the v1 IMHO but otherwise both decent.
The flared bars are a bit divisive, not a fan personally but plenty of people like the position for rougher surfaces.
@ceramicmatt - where are you based? There might be one local to you .
I love my v1. The newer colours are much nicer in the flesh. Flared drops are confidence inspiring on rougher tracks
Flared drops seem to be a bit marmite - I demoed the Sonder Ti with the flared drops and hated them. I have dodgy wrists and the bars really didn’t work for me. I think the bars/general setup also put me off the bike, as I now have a different gravel bike which has become my go-to bike...
