...and now I have this,

I'm not exactly sure where I'm going to take it, or what I'm going to do with it, but after the right combination of alcohol and meat products, the urge was irresistible. It should fit in the van easily so first idea is to find some natural downslopes to jump into.

Or I could just gas it to flat in B&Q car park. Does anyone want to build a copy so we can have a double? I'm out of wood and space!

What should a stiff backed old man with diminished riding ability do with a silly wooden ramp? I'm open to suggestions. I probably won't take it anywhere under the current restrictions so stand down Covid police.

That's a pretty substantial jump that... My son has just had similar made for him by his uncle.

I’d recommend putting something solid over those slats or yer wheel might get stuck in the gaps 😁

Yeah it came out a lot bigger than it looked as a pencil line on a board! I might trim it above the top joist to make it a little less aggressive.

Thanks. Ply wood coming as soon as my exploding van is back from the garage. I made it 2" wide so I can split a 6mm board down the middle and double it up.

Yup, that’s quite a lip - you’re going to a want a pretty steep landing to hit that comfortably.

Surely if you build a slightly smaller/bigger one for landing it can slot inside/outside that one to save space? Looks fun but I would kill myself on it.

In my opinion, as a useless jumper, I’d give that away to a bunch of young rubber people, who are more likely to bounce when they inevitably land on they’re heads whilst hucking it to flat.

Also do you fancy an A&E trip ATM with most of the hospitals resembling plague pits?

I admire your bravery. Take a video of your first flight please!

I made it 2″ wide

It looks a lot wider than that in the photo.

I've vague supervised kids making jumps in the past.

1. The is a mental shape I have ever seen.

2. The is quite easily the most under engineered jump I have ever seen.

Pretend it’s a garden lounger and we shall never speak of it again.
As a kid, my mate built one half that size and we used to do wall rides on our skate boards.
Snapped my deck on it.

It took me a good couple of minutes wondering how a jigsaw got turned into a ramp when I suddenly realised you meant a wood cutting jigsaw and not a fun puzzle jigsaw! Last blonde moment of the year hopefully!

Worth making sure it’s heavy enough not to move when you hit the lip, the upward slope is going to take some force if you come in fast - like any good old lever would. And you probably will want to hit it quite fast to make sure you don’t just do a drop off, because of you do a drop off you’re likely to loop out over the front.

As a jumping wimp, I think I'd chop it like this so it's less likely to flip over as you hit the lip.

You can always build a bigger one later and use this one as the landing.

PS I also think it looks quite 'lightly built'. Is there any bracing/triangulation between the sides, and are you adding any more joists under the ramp skin?

Transition looks good to me. You might want a couple more joists in there, I had mine about 12" apart iirc. Bending the ply at the top section is always fun, you might need someone to help you. Make sure you use screws not nails to hold it down :-).

F that. Unless there is more bracing that we can’t see, I doubt that is strong enough to hit hard enough for the speed you’d need to jump it.

Anyway, it looks great. Couple more bearers maybe, but I used to get by fine with much sketchier woodwork than that back in the day. None of these namby pamby downslopes either... 😂

Reckon making one that stopped at the 4th brace would be a better one? I want to make a folding jump like this, but not as big!

Are you going to attempt a back flip as your first jump? That kick at the end looks perfect....

Brace that against the wall to the left and you can probably clear your fence. I'd be with spooky and be cutting that down a bit smaller but then I'm a jumping wimp. Dirt Jump bike just arrived so I'm hoping to rectify that in 2021.

Lawn looks ~~immaculate~~ pretty good tbf, well done.

Edit: just noticed it needs a tidy up there next to the wall

Wow so many comments to address.

Firstly, this is as far as I could go using wood that I already had in the garage. Yes, there's another couple of joists at the back which you can't see. Those existing joists are 90x40mm and it's already very rigid. I'll beef it up when I get the van back and can collect wood.

I'll probably trim the top off but I'm not cutting it in half! I might try a backflip if I can find a pile of mulch to park it next to.

The back yard/garden is exactly as it was when we moved in a year ago. The lawn, while immaculate, is tragically made of plastic. Next years big project will be trying to level it off so there's somewhere for a baby to crawl around.

Anyway, it looks great. Couple more bearers maybe, but I used to get by fine with much sketchier woodwork than that back in the day. None of these namby pamby downslopes either… 😂

That's an awesome picture! And yes, some of the biggest jumps I've hit in my life were hastily thrown together with pallets and scraps of wood as a teenager. This will be far better.

Have you made that for YouTube superstardom as the All New Huck To Flat channel?

That looks like a fun way to make a living but I don't want to go public with my ugly face and provincial accent.
