I broke a rear rim at Megavalanche this year and replaced it on the mountain with a mavic 30mm IW 760g rim...

I was thinking it might feel nice to lose that extra 250+g on my rear, plus the mavic burps out amazing amounts of milk..( I don't lose pressure...but after a hard riding day I've seen like 20-30 points where milk juiced out)

What do you all think? Stan's or dt swiss?
Flow mk3 or ex511 (if I can actually find it).

My front rim is a flow ex 25.5mm IW...

Is it worth the extra trouble to put the new 30mm on the front instead of back? Or am I thinking too much and 25.5mm, 29mm and 30mm is really all the same in reality...?

It sounds like you might not be experiencing burping, possibly the milk sealing the tyre where you've pinched it?

Anyway, I would probably run a bit more air in the rear tyre to reduce the burping/pinching issue, and this may help to protect the rims depending how you broke the old one.

The old rim broke from some awesome negligence. I think no rim could survive what I did.
But anyways...trying to save almost 300g...
Dt Swiss vs Stan's...?

Im a coward and can still dent an old Flow, and mates Flow EX are more hexagonal than round, so on that id say DT but ive not seen much online feedback of the MK3 flow.

Incidentally I solved my Flow issues with Procore, probably same all up weight as the Mavic rim but mean I can run much lower pressures for rough or slippy conditions, and saved some of that weight back with a single ply ST Minion on the front. Worked a treat in Morzine this summer with the mixed conditions we had (arriving just after the horrible storms, so rough in the sun and very wet in the trees)

EX471's ran them since January and they've been well abused (Mega, Morzine, Stiniog, Revolution Bike Park, etc), still straight and true. Have heard rim strikes on multiple occasions, but no damage or spoke tension loss.

760g -500g on the rim... do you think my legs and jump balance will feel a difference?

Feel a difference, probably. Make a difference, unlikely. 😆
