Hi all,

I'm in the middle of a pretty sh1tty time and I'm looking to get away on the weekend of 19th - 21st October on my own. I'm coming from Manchester. Options are to go to Glentress and base myself from there, or somewhere new like BPW. It's difficult to find somewhere to stay that will accommodate my bike and just me. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks

Have you thought about checking for a cheap enough Airbnb?

In my experience, Premier Inn are happy for you to take your bike to your room. Might be kind to get rid of the worst of the mud first, if the weather requires...

Hi Colin, I've stopped solo at the Peebles Hydro before for £50.

I'll probably be up there next weekend solo myself, not that that's much help!

Glentress and stay at the campsite, or sleep in the car. Depends which is stronger, your aversion to sleeping rough or paying £50 for a premier inn.

I've done that before, driven up Friday night in the dark, slept for a few hours in GT car park, cooked a bacon sandwich on the trangia and head off for a loop of the Black before the crowds arrive, lunch. Then the blue in the afternoon (busy but what can you do) and the red in the evening once the crowds dissipate. Then Innerleithen Sunday morning before getting a chinese takeaway in Peebles before driving home.

Currently looking at roof tents to make it a more comfortable and regular thing!

ive solo'd up the tweed a few times, i just kip on an airbed in the back of the van at buzzards and shower at the campsite. if thats not an option i know the Hydro has single rooms, or maybe get a pod?

i got a bit bored riding BPW on my own, but i stayed at a nice B&B in Crickhowell.

Thanks for all the replies. Not sleeping in the car or camping (don't have any gear at the moment). Hydro looking £175 per night!

(don’t have any gear at the moment).

Cheapest 4 season synthetic bag, or just take a duvet, and an airbed will fit in the back of a decent estate car. If not a cheap tent from decathlon. I've got a pop-up one for just this sort of trip as I can erect it in seconds, perfect for clandestine cheeky camping and all for less than a night a the holiday inn.  Just pull into a layby and throw it over the hedge into a field, I love a little mini-adventure!

2 nights in a pod will cost about £110. Just take a sleeping bag or grab your duvet

Booked an Air BnB in the end. Thanks for the suggestions. If anyone is around that weekend, always happy to tag along at the back. Just need to decide if I'll book the uplift at Inners on the Saturday....

I just rode the big loop, it's not that big, but nice and quiet compared to GT and feels a bit more remote once you get over the top and round the other side.

Roof tents ( as mentioned above ) ...I've seen the ads on here and thinks it's a brilliant idea ..but in excess of £1100 !!...that's a good few B&Bs
