Yo,

So, I've just sold an item via Paypal (through a classified ad elsewhere) and have a a bit of a question as to what protection I have as a seller:

If I receive money through Paypal (regular, not gift) and the transaction turns out to be fraudulent, can the money be reclaimed from me? or is that Paypal's responsibility, as they have taken a (fairly handsome) fee for the transaction?

The item was sold though Pinkbike, but the buyer has no history, photos etc.
I've spoken with the buyer on the phone today- he seems pretty straight up, and has payed by PayPal. He opted for this over a bank transfer because of the protection it offers, which is understandable.
The Paypal account is in his partner's name, but both names are on the delivery address.
I know this is quite common, and have sold many things like this without a problem, it's just the lack of history which is what's making me question it.
Chances are the guy is genuine, and only has a PB account for browsing classifieds etc. I'd just like my mind to be put at rest before I ship the frame.

If I am still at risk of having the money reclaimed if the transaction turns out not to be genuine, are there any other steps I could take to ensure it is genuine before shipping?

Cheers.

So you sold something on Pinkbike, and then registered on STW to ask about it?

I'd be sure to send it by some form of recorded and assured delivery

If feeling anxious, I'd also

Take good photos (or maybe video) of it before sending and note any serial numbers etc. If it's something with removable internals, consider documenting them too and if it's electrical, get some proof that it was working when you boxed it up. If there's something in the photos that shows todays date (newspaper etc) then I guess that'd be good

@Jamie- the item was for sale here too. Anonymous post so as not to offend the buyer, assuming he is genuine!
