[Closed] Solaris mk1 owners - fork length (travel) question

I am currently running 100mm travel X Fusion Slides on my Solaris. I went with 100mm as it was a 'do-it-all' build, which included some trundling along and xc stuff, etc.

Anyway, most of my trundling (and other riding if truth be told) has been on my fatbike now.

So with a fork service due, I was thinking of setting the forks to 120mm to change things up a bit and perhaps, in my mind at least, increase the distance between the Solaris and fatbike.

Just wanted some feedback from any mk1 owners who have made the change from 100mm to 120mm (or vice versa).

Any particular things you've noticed either good or bad?

Is it even worth doing?

Thanks in advance.

It's a bit different, but not better or worse in my opinion. A bit more confidence on the descents from the slacker HA and longer travel, but a higher BB so not quite as planted in corners. Turns a bit slower but a bit more stable at speed in a straight line. But it's all quite subtle (and some may just be in my head).

I found that going to 120mm but fitting B+ wheels was the best option as it gives you the slacker angles without raising (probably slightly lowering) the BB. But then it's even closer to your fatbike!

I used to run Slides then Traces at 120mm on my Solaris NormalMan. To be fair it was the Mk2 (I think) but not sure if that makes any difference on the Geometry? It was brilliant anyhow 🙂

Thanks chaps.

I've fired off an email to Cotic to find out the geometry figures.

I seem to remember that Cotic reckoned that going from 100mm to 120mm changed the head angle by half a degree. Could be wrong, no doubt the response to your request will confirm or refute it.

I've run my Mk1 with X-Fusion Slides at 120mm since I got it

Update as promised.
1 degree slacker.

Perhaps not ideal for the seat tube angle but as I struggled to get a good saddle angle anyway that might not be much of a sacrifice. We will see.

I run a pair of Slides in 120mm guise on my Trance.

IIRC ( I may be wrong ) I thought the A2C on them was marginally shorter than their competition e.g. RS.

May be worth a measure as if they are a touch shorter that will help negate the HA change.

of course if they aren't you can ignore all of this ...... 😆

I run my forks at 120mm and find the frame great, much more fun and lively than I was expecting from a 29er. It climbs better than my Stumpjumper.
