Anyone one ridden both? Lots of stuff about the Solaris but not much yet on the new Pace.

Looking for a winter xx hardtail / bike packing bike

Haven’t ridden the Cotic but the Pace was awesome fun. Felt like a tank going downhill, just point it and go. Climbed probably better than my XC bike too. The 853 steel adds a bit of compliance. Sold it as limited time so ended up choosing my 29er FS more often. Miss it! Wouldn’t use it as a packing bike or really XC either

Not much help I know but I opted for the Solaris because I have a 26 Soul which I love and I live near Cotic hq.
I have also had dealings with Pace....

Pace is a bit slacker, and has a steeper seat angle, which I like. And 100 quid cheaper. But customer service wise, I don't think I've ever heard a bad word against Cotic, but rarely hear anything positive about Pace.

As above. I've not ridden them, but from a customer service point if view, it's a no brainer.

I'm fancying a new bike and been looking at 29er hard tail to replace my old 26 crush and Boardman FS. Was also looking at sonder signal ti. Would like to at least have a look at one in the flesh, maybe have a ride over to cotic. But that's doubtful in the current climate. The gold level Shimano would be my choice.

Based on the one companies reputation for snapping frames and warranty disappointment I would go for the Cotic

I can’t comment on the Pace but I bought a Solaris Max a couple of months ago (built 27.5+) and it’s a flippin’ weapon.

My full suss is a BTR Pinner and for local riding the Solaris is a great alternative.

Wasn't that on the old alloy frames from 15 years ago? Anyone got anything bad to say about their frames and/or customer service in the past decade?

I think Cotic are still too conservative with their seat tube angles, they're very slack given the reach numbers

I have a pair of Pace RC627s and have had a few Cotics, including the MK1 Solaris Max.

Both companies have given me excellent customer service.
Both the Cotic and the Pace bikes I've had have been excellent to ride.

I personally prefer the Pace Geo and the sliding dropouts - one of mine is setup single speed.

I had a call from Pace this morning. They were about to ship my 529 frame, noticed it was going to my work address and wondered if I wanted it sent to my home (I did, saved me a load of hassle). So far the customer service seems pretty good for a small team under trying circumstances. I'll let you know what the bike is like when I have built it (if I can retrieve the box containing the rest of the parts from work).

That's a nice touch, to be fair.

I had the Cotic SolarisMax LS and can't say that I was particularly impressed with the quality.
My lovely new dropper got a huge score down the side because the ST wasn't reamed and had a bur.
The paint quality was also weak. If you touched it on anything it would chip. Maybe down to the mercury finish?

I ride plenty of progressive slack bikes (Whyte S150, G170 & Cotic RocketMax, etc.), but something just didn't work with the SolarisMax LS for me. I couldn't work it out as the geometry looks good, but I think it's the seatangle and CS length. If you pointed it downhill it was great and the fastest HT I've ridden, but for anything else (trail riding) it was difficult.

Not to slam Cotic- I've currently got a RocketMax that I quite like.

What relevance is a 7 year old thread?
My understanding is that they've moved a long way away from what they were in terms of QC, manufacturer and CS. I've not heard of issues with them for years now.

My 529 is great. Feels like a big monster but is really nimble. Only issue was a rub from the rear wheel caused by me not checking tightness of BTS on sliding drop outs. After a few rides.

Interested in all the responses as I've been looking at both and am leaning towards Pace atm.

Any pics of 529s? There's one good pic of the grey on the Pace site, and none of the Rioja

Mine is a medium Rioja, when it turns up. Will have 140 Z2's, 11 speed XT and Hunt trail wides.

How is the Pace on normal singletrack? In theory, as I want ss option it looks spot on, but worried too burly. Any idea on frame/build weights?
