Can anyone recommend soft grips for small hands?
Mrs finnegan's having trouble with the base joint of her thumb - swollen and painful.
Physio's helping, but riding the bike isn't really.
She's currently wrapping the bar with bubblewrap which offers great cushioning but terrible grip.
Hopefully this is a relatively short term thing, so we're not fussy about flange/no flange, lock-on/tapered, soft rubber wearing fast etc.
I quite like the idea of the asymmetrical DMR Death Grips giving extra cushioning without making a fatter grip all round.
Any experience of these, or other recommendations?
Thanks
I'm using ergon gp1 s on all my bikes because of arthritis in the thumb. Means hand rests more on palm than a death grip. Try a cbd patch on the joint - it's working for me where injections haven't.
Sounds tricky. I can't help but think some way of spreading the load out across and over the problem area could work...some kind of supportive cast if there is such a thing...My inkling would be that soft grips would focus the pressure a bit like riding in normal trainers. Could something like Ergon GP1 grips mean that she could direct riding forces/impacts more to the outside of her hand than the inside? I know they don't look the best.

Revgrips, pricey but can be returned for a refund if they aren't what you need?
Helped remove vibration that caused my carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome to make riding almost impossible.
Sram do a foam grip, locking about £16. I used than a while myself as ive a similar prob on the thumb joint(actually from holding a knife for so many years) and they are good, but alas dont last.
Its not a really soft foam though.
Maybe to get more time on them she could use foam one side, standard the others so pretty much double the wear time 😕

I have the same issue and have tried loads of grips bigger hands but the diety grips work well,
and worth looking for some super tacky grips rental do them. ware quicker of cause but means you have to grip as tight.
also if you want I have some unused ESI grips here crap colours there slim. Pop me message and I’ll post them out so she can try them foc ok.
I really like deathgrips, the mushroom section is very comfy, most foam grips arn’t very soft, but ESI ones are quiet comfy I found bit do take a battering
Would a set of togs help her by taking the need to wrap around the bars away for the sedate stuff?
I use mine constantly with healthy thumbs.
I use Ergon grips due to severe dislocation of my right thumb. It's getting worse over the years and it's getting to a point of seriously looking at a twist grip shifter as it's getting painful on long rides changing gears pushing the paddle.
Lots of new ideas to pursue, thanks STW, and thanks for the ESI offer batman - we'll read up and come back to you if ESI looks right.
I've spent a while looking for soft grips for small hands, tried loads and so far really liking Chromag Palmskins, only issue with them is they tend to be quite slippy in the wet

Interesting & good to hear.
I’ve just got a pair to help with the bartering my paws get on xc marathons..
ESI ergo, more squish than the race/slim ones but not as bulky as the chunky ones. Lot more give than lock on grips.
I broke my thumb and it's never been super comfortable since, ergons are very good for lock on's but if you can be bothered with push on grips they are much more comfortable. ESI's don't stand up to crashes that well and thorns do get stuck in them but in terms of what you/you're wife need I would say they would be there best.
