I don't actually own any longs for cycling, I still ride all year in shorts. In fact I am still wearing shorts to work too, although my office is a bit warmer than Jedi's.

It might be 3/4's later today - but I'm thinking I can probably just squeeze another weekend in with summer shorts and knee warmers ... (unless I go to the BMX track, in which case it'll be scruffy combats and shin-pads).

thought about it, then thought about my 3/4's waterproof short (tend to be warmer), then just got on with it as per normal - Lycra short and baggies - it ain't that cold (unless you road riding I suppose).
If the cold weather keeps up, I may well be tempted by longs on wed night.

ps this is the sunny midlands though, not some some grim up north latitude 😉

Yeah. Been wearing long bottoms for a couple of weeks now. As well as a couple of layers on the top half. Yesterday I wore a windproof soft shell too...

I'd rather be warm than worry about how 'soft' I may appear...

Wore the full length tights yesterday for the first time since last winter.

There's no glory in being cold. 🙂

Having said that, I do need to bucket wash them today and there's certainly no glory in that either. 😆

3/4's all year round. Even in the super icy conditions of a couple of winters ago

The sweat still bails out on my rides

Tights and multi layers you really can't be trying hard enough

I've been wearing warm bib tights but with just a base layer on top. It's great; warm legs that don't feel every splash and a top half working like a chimney venting all the heat. Plus if you stop then popping on a softshell gives you a full winter outfit.

Last weekend at 876m as night fell I was in tights, base/fleece/full waterproof, sealskinz gloves and hat and glad of every stich.

Very cold on the road bike yesterday, longs were a no brainer.

Haven't reached for the overshoes yet though...

Have been wearing 3/4 bibs on the road bike since the start of October. I just dont see the point of suffering cold knees. I wear 3/4 shorts on the mtb pretty much all year round, unless its stinking hot. It'll be full on longs for my next ride until Spring i suspect.

I was out this morning with a set of compression bib-longs & goretex wet trousers on top - expecting the rain that was forecast all morning.

The rain didn't arrive (hooray!) and I was too hot so took of the over-trousers. I think I looked really dashing in my XU compression biblongs........pantomine stylee!

Now to hand wash all the mud off em....

I didn't.

But I did order some, on account of letting out a girly whimper as I left the house...

Shorts. But only cos I don't own any longs or 3/4s. Probably next on the shopping list as it was damn cold last week.

Every year I manfully go forth in shorts all winter. This year, it's only October and every time I leave the house I feel like I'm going to die. And all because I carelessly enjoyed a single week of sunshine, 3 months ago.

So, might have to buy some longs.

Longs and a winter jersey for yesterdays road ride but by the time I left the house a 3pm it had warmed up a bit and I was boiling. Last week my LS jersey and lycra + knee warmers were far to hot for a road night ride.
It's always difficult to pick the right amount of clothes at this time of year.
MTB is not so bad and only wear longs when it's sub zero.

Leave the house feeling a bit cool, should be warm after 15 minutes of solid riding

Despite my slig&t willy waving/admitting to being too tight to buy longs, I have been thinking about getting some for this winter.

I would be after full length bibs that don't have any padding. I'm thinking no padding so I can wear them as a base layer when skiing.

Does anybody have any recommendations for some cheap ones that fit the above description? I was thinking maybe DHB when I looked a while ago as they were only about £40 and I don't want to spend much more than that.

If it's good enough for Wiggo in the TdB, it's OK for me in the damp and windy North Pennines. I like to be warm, and there's nothing big or clever about being cold...

Whats wrong with longs? or are F'd up knees a better alternative?

Whenever theirs a pedal thread, I am surprised by the number of people claiming to have knackered knees. Maybe there is a correlation.

I ride in shorts year-round, but after yesterday's ride I think I'm going to have to start wearing more than a t-shirt on top. Was a bit nippy.

All these posts of tights/thermals and over shoes is very distressing, it would appear STW members (or most of mtb'ing) has turned to mush

oldgit holds cred though

I'd rather have warm knees. Baggies & knee pads yesterday for the (early doors, sub zero) MTB ride. Bib longs today in the cold drizzle before dawn on the road. I'm happy with that.

I find that longs ( Endura singletrack type) really play a role in getting me on my bike more in the really bad weather. More for the way they handle the water and mud, and stop it rolling down your legs turning water proof boots into bags of freezing water.

3/4's for me today, was a balmy 10°C at Cannock today. Don't think it'll be long till the long's make an appearance though!

Was glad of my longs on Friday when it started snowing. Still not cold enough for winter gloves yet though

Been in bib 3/4's since August. The Sidi road boots have been out, but I have switched back to Gore Windstoppers. The 3/4 live under some Humvees when off road, with long Sealskinz.

Being cold is not the way I like to suffer. Killing myself by hammering is a far more effective method.

Still not wearing winter gloves yet though 😆
