Just back from the Endurance Downhill at Fort William... Had an absolute blast, brilliant event, but now for the first time in half a year I've got nothing in my diary to prepare for/train for/look forward to. Anyone got any suggestions for a "next big thing"? Something a bit intimidating...

I think, only things I'm not interested in are endurance XC races- I barely managed to stick around to the end of 10UTB, just didn't find any enjoyment in it. So no 24 hours, Kielder 100s, etc. And sadly probably nothing abroad, I'd like say the Mega but not sure I can find the money for that.

Any ideas? A scottish C2C or the west highland way is appealing just now but the timing's not ideal for those I think

You know the mega was two weeks ago? Plenty of time to save and get in shape for that. Gravity enduros?

sounds like you prefer downhill type of events. If not, you've got Tour of Ben Nevis in September, the CRC marathon series, one ( a little 40km) in August or a night time one in Sept.

Ah, should have phrased that better- I could definately find the money, I just don't want to cut out the other things I would be doing with the cash in the meantime.

I love the enduro racing format, done a couple at innerleithen but though they're great to do they didn't really have that feeling of a big standout event- they're more like regular rides with the gain turned up.

(this is making me think btw so thanks!)

Tour of Ben Nevis is very interesting... Hadn't thought of that one. I'm not really a downhiller, I love the challenge of it but the fact is I'm not fast and I'd be totally wasting my time in a real downhill race.

The Hairy Coo, dude - look it up - quite short but different. Great vibe small event but quite a challenge 🙂

Northern Downhill is running an event each month.

Have a chat with some of the lads on there and see if this is the sort of thing you're looking for?

What about another sport?

Did something similar in 1985. I was road racing and TT'ing mainly, but also did 13 half marathons and one full - the Snowdonia. Did four Triathlons including the first UK full Ironman - The Silver Spoon. And one ultra run of the SDW, it was called the Polaplod and sponsored by Polaroid, I posted the second fastest time ever for that run.
Problem was I couldn't find any motivation to do anything in 1986 😐

But you did enjoy the Glentress 7, so perhaps it was just the event, not the format that was the problem with 10 Under the Ben last year?
