A grand day out in the Lakes yesterday has left me pondering just which high level routes in the Lakes are peoples favourites?
I reckon I've done more than a fair few over the years but I'm interested to read what others consider as classics. Given that most of the ones I like involve a fair bit of hike a bike, I doubt this thread will create an influx of riders on the fells so feel free to share, cheeky or not. 😆
Oh and pics are always nice too!
Cheers

This is one of my all favourite routes. The highest it goes is High Street, It has a bit of everything and most of the climbing is ridable (ish) There a few ways to go at it but the descent of Ill bell is awsome.

Cant beat Ullock Pike as well 🙂
Sanny do you gps your routes?
i did a jeremy ashcroft route years ago.
from buttermere head to the far side of the lake. take the b/w directly to the top of red pike, then follow the b/w over high stile and high cragg.
drop down gamling end into scarth gap then take the footpath over haystacks.
follow this to the b/w that drops into warnscale bottom.
in the guide book the route was described as the 'feasable limit of mountainbiking'.
i would not argue. horrible climb, awesome ridge, mahoosive steep loose descent, bike on shoulder sections, monster descent to finish with.
what is not to like............ 8)
One of my favorites in the Lakes, on Helvellyn is to start at the bottom of sticks pass (Thirlmere side). Ride along the A591 for a good few miles, go up to Grisdale Tarn via Great Tongue & Grisdale Hause, past the tarn & descend into patterdale(lovely techie DH). Then along the road to Glenridding & up Helvellyn via Keppel Cove (optional Detour to the summit). Along the Helvellyn ridge & over Raise to descend back to the car via the Thirlmere side of Sticks Pass.
