I'm pretty sure my scales are reasonably accurate as I've done a few test weights and my bike comes it at 30lb dead on
It's a carbon Bronson with 1x10, XT brakes, Pikes and Flow EX rims.
Ok so it's an XL but how are people getting similar spec bikes built up to 25/26 lbs?
Am I missing something?
You actually include things you need to ride like pedals? Too honest?
what am I doing wrong
telling the truth
although with flow EX's (and heavier tyres?) you could easily lose a bit off that
You're weighing it.
Most people guestimate 😉
I always take pedals off when I weigh the bikes, as do ALL manufacturers.
what am I doing wrong
using accurate scales.
However - Pay attention to the big items, are your forks big capable forks, same goes for tyres. You can get big differences in otherwise identical builds just by the light bike using noodly forks and paper thin tyres that you just wouldnt want to use for your type of riding.
I thought the same when I weighed my Mojo HD and it came in at 31.4lb. But then I looked at the detail - I have marz 55 rc 3 coil forks, a ccdb air shock, just these two combined are 3-4 lb heavier than some light air forks and a fox rp23 shock, but I wouldnt swap for them.
lightweight is not everything.
The weight sounds about right to me. My Ibis is 26lbs with lighter forks, wheels, seatpost (guessing you're using something other than a Masterpiece) and Groupset along with very light tubless tyres.
Heavy tyres without tubeless are an easy way to add lbs to a build.
For a start off your scales are way too accurate and probably calibrated too! So find your self some nice pound shop ones.
Then there are another few other tricks you can try like leaving one wheel touching the floor when you make the measurement or leaning against the wall a bit. And when measure your own weight to subtract the difference make sure you go for 3 course meal first and stick a heavy coat on too.
You will soon get those weights down!
30lbs for a XL fs bike ain't bad though is it? I'm sure it'll still ride OK 😉
Currently set up with 160mm Pike solo air and Maxxis HR II 2.3 and Minion DHF 2.3 ready for trip to Andorra next week 😀
To properly calculate weight you have use the following =
R-L-(10% per 1000)= Forum Weight
Where
(Real riding weight)- (light weight stuff that you bought but you took off because it broke)- (10% for every £1k you spent) = Internet Forum Weight
Very happy at 29lbs with pedals on my XL Liteville.
That's with 2x10, reverb and a dual-ply on the back.
Feels ridiculously light.
Sounds about right to me. It cost me a lot of money to get my xl RIP9 down to 29lbs and that was with Fox 32s.
