Built a new winter/commuter bike a couple of weeks ago, decided to go hydro discs, makes sense for winter and commuting, right?
I've always been a bit 'meh' on discs - I get why you'd have them on a winter bike, but not on a summer bike, rim brakes are perfectly adequate, they look crap etc etc.
I've ridden a couple of hundred miles on the disc bike (using RS805 calipers), first ride I wasn't quite sure, lever feel was good, albeit quite a bit of travel, modulation and power felt pretty nice, but not really revolutionary. Was conscious that in several rides into London I'm not sure I've used the rear brake once, which is a bit different.
Went out on the 'nice' (rim brake) bike at lunch today for a quick spin. Dear god, the brakes were awful. Went to feather the brakes slightly approaching a junction and nothing happened! Dura Ace 9000 calipers, so not exactly rubbish brakes, I'm amazed at what a difference they (don't) make. Obviously I adjusted, I'm not rushing out to change all my bikes to disc, but I'm more impressed with the discs now I've gone back to rim brakes.
That's all.
I had the same experience after building my Niner commuter in November of 2014. Come spring 2015 and the nice weather, I rolled out the Litespeed and God it felt good, light, nimble, quick to accelerate...and then I came to stop...it was horrifying. Sailed right through the junction I was intending to stop at. I adjusted by the end of the ride, but stil. I sold the litespeed at the end of the summer and built the Pickenflick, itself replaced by the Tripster.
Pretty much the same experience.
But you will crash and decapitate yourself. Apparently that will definitely happen with disks on a road bike. You will be killed to death.

Yeh my winter/wet day commuter has hydro discs, my past bike has sram red rim brakes and it takes a bit of getting used after riding discs during the week.
My summer commuter has canti brakes on it, now that really is night and day compared to discs!

I was surprised I didn't crash and die in a ball of fire the first time I rode the disc bike frankly. It's Chinese and everything. With Chinese wheels. Like a perfect storm of 'things what explode and kill you to death'.
brilliant, used them for last month. Faster, safer, easy to use, same weight whats not to like?
Same debate when disks were introduced to MTB and they were all wrong.
Wont be going back to rim brakes on MTB or road bike 😉
whats not to like
They make you die?
That's a big quokka, Bez.
I approve of both quokkas and groundhogs.

Well they're not the same weight at all, they cost more and they look crap, but yes, point taken.
they make sense in a lot of circumstances but for my sunday morning road ride I'm lucky if I use the brakes more than a couple of times So I doubt I'd notice any difference 🙂
Yeah I shalln't be having one (or two) of those!

Groundhogs?
Yes, when compared to quokkas.
discs on road bikes and quokkas - both ace IMO
Why would you put discs on a quokka?
To make them squeal?
