Aiming to complete it in sub-96 hours.
Alternating between quietly confident and bricking it.

Wish me luck!

Good luck! Having done the, slightly shorter, 1200km Paris-Brest-Paris in a shade under 92 hours I know that your arse is gonna get sore, so pack the Sudocream!

EDIT: And don't forget to get some proper sleep en-route!

Good luck!

Remember: it doesn't have to be fun to be fun. I hope it is, though.

Good luck!!

Having met a few LELers on a 600k audax a few weeks ago, I really wish I'd entered now. Sounds like it will be amazing. 2000 riders!

They don't make your ride qualifiers?

Odd. They do for the PBP.

Good luck, God speed etc

Good luck! A pretty daunting undertaking but I hope you get through it. Don't pretend to be racing or they will all think you are doing a sportive.

I'm not sure where Kirkton is, but I'm assuming it's a decent amount of progress 😉

Cynic-al - think this is the first LEL without a qualifying requirement?

If so, will be interesting how the numbers of starters/finishers matches previous ones.

*makes mental note for 2017*

It's "only" 875 miles in total, so he's gone wrong somewhere 😉

No, LEL has never required qualifying rides.

First rider back was last night at 65hrs. Good effort

There is a steady stream of riders leaving Thirsk at the moment. It's raining and they are joining the A19 a truly horrible single carriageway road, very busy at this time of day. I don't envy them but wish them well.

I'd be very interested to know what this was like. Especially with respect to the enjoyability of the route.
Would love to do something like this next year.

LEL is only on every 4 years. The next big long audax is Paris Brest Paris in two years from now. AFAIK that has qualifying rides though.

I saw a load of riders, some being naughty and riding 4 abreast, heading to / from a checkpoint in town on the first day. Then I was talking to a Swiss sounding guy on Thursday outside the LBS who had destroyed 3 tubs on our 'very bad roads'.

I'd love to give give it ago next time round, but I don't think I'd go straight on to Istanbul like a nutter doing the Transcontinental!

Cheers,
Jamie

Thanks for the support chaps.
Just had a week in France "recovery" (beer and bbqs)

100 or so hours total, strava has it as just under 60 hours riding time.

I'll write up a report asap.
Suffice to say, Never again...

Bike for the event:

[img] [/img]

3 problems with it over the ride:

Mudguard/seatstay bracket snapped on the way into Edinburgh - mended with 'leccy tape
Puncture in the rear tyre discovered at Market Rasen.
On fixing the puncture, discovered a broken spoke which was replaced with the spare.

There's not a single item of kit I carried that I didn't need at some point or other. Had a few bits I didn't need, like puncture patches, but I know what would happen if I didn't have them.

Worn out the rear tyre now, and spd cleats too.

I used to have that same GE jersey, sold it to someone on here. Was it you (at least I could then say my jersey had done the LEL)

I was watching your times as you approached Crowland Southbound (I live there). Sadly you had a kip and then passed through in the middle of the night. The welcoming committee mutineed and all went to bed 🙂

Good effort, you still look pretty fresh in the pics.
