You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more

Aiming to complete it in sub-96 hours.
Alternating between quietly confident and bricking it.
Wish me luck!

Good luck! Having done the, slightly shorter, 1200km Paris-Brest-Paris in a shade under 92 hours I know that your arse is gonna get sore, so pack the Sudocream!
EDIT: And don't forget to get some proper sleep en-route!
Good luck ,got a friend riding that Drew Buck in his 60s and has one pace but will keep that pace for days .He has done PBP several times on all sorts of weird bikes
good luck - make sure you enjoy it!
Keep us updated during the ride if you can

Good luck!
Remember: it doesn't have to be fun to be fun. I hope it is, though.

Good luck!!
Having met a few LELers on a 600k audax a few weeks ago, I really wish I'd entered now. Sounds like it will be amazing. 2000 riders!
good luck mate, hope you manage it.
done a few audax events in my time....longest being a 300km, so i dont envy you..... 😀
Good luck, I can't imagine riding 200k let alone 1600k.
Good luck fella!
Let us know when you are free after for a cheeky Lakes adventure!
Cheers
Sanny
They don't make your ride qualifiers?
Odd. They do for the PBP.
Good luck, God speed etc
Good luck! A pretty daunting undertaking but I hope you get through it. Don't pretend to be racing or they will all think you are doing a sportive.
You cant really race an audax as the controls dont open until a certain time
Monday morning in NZ and Paul's reached Kirkton. Nice one mate!
I'm not sure where Kirkton is, but I'm assuming it's a decent amount of progress 😉
How is our man doing?
Last seen in Brampton at the back of 7pm, heading north.
the fast boys will be turning round by now........... 😉
550 miles covered, well done that man!
Ton - the fast boys were heading south from Brampton at 6:30pm this evening.
I might enter it next time round.....do they have a month long touring category.... 😆
Well done that man / woman. This is what real cycling is about imo.
He lives! 851 miles and counting! A legend lives amongst us.
I let someone who was doing an Audax across the roundabout in front of me on the A66/Scotch Corner at 14:00 today. If they're doing the same route, then they
We're making very good time.
Last seen Thirsk at 8.30am heading South. A massive day yesterday Brampton-Moffat-Edinburgh-Peebles-Brampton-Barnard Castle 6am this morning.
Morning coffee must be working wonders...
Cynic-al - think this is the first LEL without a qualifying requirement?
If so, will be interesting how the numbers of starters/finishers matches previous ones.
*makes mental note for 2017*
He's just left Pocklington @ mile 1053 😯 Get in!
He's just left Pocklington @ mile 1053
It's "only" 875 miles in total, so he's gone wrong somewhere 😉
think this is the first LEL without a qualifying requirement?
No, LEL has never required qualifying rides.
First rider back was last night at 65hrs. Good effort
1400km long.
Ah, the metric system, that's not reached Fife yet. 😳
There is a steady stream of riders leaving Thirsk at the moment. It's raining and they are joining the A19 a truly horrible single carriageway road, very busy at this time of day. I don't envy them but wish them well.
Good luck mate your accomplishment so far is amazing!
He's nearly there - Gt Easton at 12.30 today. 1373 Km down and only 45 to go...
fantastic....keep it up mate. 8)
Chapeau.
Thats some ride...
and he's finished, 2.46pm today... 😀
I'm exhausted just thinking about it...
I'd be very interested to know what this was like. Especially with respect to the enjoyability of the route.
Would love to do something like this next year.
LEL is only on every 4 years. The next big long audax is Paris Brest Paris in two years from now. AFAIK that has qualifying rides though.
cheers, that's good to know.
I'm guessing he's still sleeping 😉
Well done. Any update / mini write up of some ofthe highs and lows?
Drums fingers awaiting a ride report. 😉
I saw a load of riders, some being naughty and riding 4 abreast, heading to / from a checkpoint in town on the first day. Then I was talking to a Swiss sounding guy on Thursday outside the LBS who had destroyed 3 tubs on our 'very bad roads'.
I'd love to give give it ago next time round, but I don't think I'd go straight on to Istanbul like a nutter doing the Transcontinental!
Cheers,
Jamie
Not stealing the bandit's thunder, but a couple of lads I know did it.

Check day 3 onwards if you are pressed for time.
That's a great write up. Thanks for the link.
Blimey, that was ace 🙂
Thanks for the support chaps.
Just had a week in France "recovery" (beer and bbqs)
100 or so hours total, strava has it as just under 60 hours riding time.
I'll write up a report asap.
Suffice to say, Never again...
A couple of my mates did it too, rider no.s K42 and K43; it sounded challenging to say the least!
Bike for the event:
3 problems with it over the ride:
Mudguard/seatstay bracket snapped on the way into Edinburgh - mended with 'leccy tape
Puncture in the rear tyre discovered at Market Rasen.
On fixing the puncture, discovered a broken spoke which was replaced with the spare.
There's not a single item of kit I carried that I didn't need at some point or other. Had a few bits I didn't need, like puncture patches, but I know what would happen if I didn't have them.
Worn out the rear tyre now, and spd cleats too.
I've entered you for this next year - Small Bike Ride
Great write up, and well done. Lots of respect due to you for doing it, and your family for supporting you 🙂
I used to have that same GE jersey, sold it to someone on here. Was it you (at least I could then say my jersey had done the LEL)
thanks!
No, I've had the GE jersey for years, bought new when GE stuff used to be silly cheap to import...
Well done to you. 🙂
I was watching your times as you approached Crowland Southbound (I live there). Sadly you had a kip and then passed through in the middle of the night. The welcoming committee mutineed and all went to bed 🙂
Good effort, you still look pretty fresh in the pics.
Great write up Paul, good to see the On One out on an epic again.
Cheers Peter. On One did me proud!
Well done. I was expecting a SS belt drive though... 🙂
