taken the plunge on a Grand Canyon 7.9 - anyone got one as yet? Spec looks pretty unbeatable for the money and there wasn't really any competition. Been resisting the whole 29er thing for a while but they seem to work well on my local trails and make sense for someone of my height - 6ft plus.
Let us know how you get on. It's on my short list for a new purchase hopefully later this year.
I've been eyeing one up for a while myself 🙂
Not bought one, but really want one, which is odd seeing as I've bought a new hardcore hardtail recently that I've not even ridden yet, but already planning a new XC bike! Sure that'll change as soon as the propper trails dry out and I stop doing glorified CX routes.
Me too but still waiting as there seem to be problems them processing my card payment, been over 2 weeks now...
S_J, may I ask what height you are (and leg length?) and let us know how it goes.
I'm 6' 1" ish inside leg is approx 33inch. I normally ride a 19/20 so this is bang on for me. Effective top tube seems a bit longer than my other bikes but feels good. I wouldn't have got enough setpost extension on a medium and the XL would be way too big.
where did you buy it from, direct from Canyon ?.
Yeah, direct from Canyon. I think that's the only way at the moment as they don't sell through dealers.
I've been eyeing up that 7.9 for a while now but even with the weak Euro it's still a smidge over the £1k bike2work limit! 😕
Canyon do look like superb value and all the reviews appear good too. With the £1k limit in mind, I've been thinking one of these would be ideal, also seem to be insanely good value 😀
Limited amount of reviews on them though - anyone got any info?
Thought so,they're v good value & well specced, mite be my winter bike that !.
🙂
Just some initial feedback on the bike. I've resisted it as long as possible, but 29ers really do seem to work, especially if you're on the taller side. I can still see a place for 26 inch wheels on longer travel trail bikes, but on a hardtail they just makes sense, it's like riding a short travel full susser.
With regards to the Canyon, I've been surprised by how stiff it is given the larger wheel size. It also picks up speed really well. Once it's rolling you can carry speed much more effectively it just 'joins to dots up' much better. Really pleased with it and the price makes it even better.
With regards to sizing, I initially found it a little short. The top tube is about 0.5in shorter that what I'm used to, but it's the 90mm stem and inline seatpost that exaggerated this. I guess it's a personal thing, but I found this too cramped for the type of riding I was using it for. I've stuck a 100mm stem and a layback seatpost on it which gives it an ETT of 23.5in ish.. the frame size is right for me as any bigger and stand-over would start to be a problem.
