It's been a while since I've done any sort of cycle racing but CX has been on my mind as a potential for some time. I went down to a couple of local races earlier this year and it seemed great. A really friendly and fun sport.
So any advice? I'm struggling in bike selection. I should be able to put a budget together of a maximum of £1500. Although it seems that sort if budget offers plenty of options bike wise I'm not completely convinced that it will get me a bike that is race orientated, rather commuter/ all day type bikes instead? Whilst I hardly see myself entering the world champs anytime soon I would at least like to have a bike that will be ideal for racing. I've looked at Planet X, boardmans etc which seem to offer good value but I've certainly read mixed reviews of them too. Anyone able to offer some suggestions?
Weird time to buy. Most popular models have sold out, and new models are not out for a couple of months.
Just to clarify, you 100% can get a race orientated bike for £1000-£1500.
I race on an old (£80 ebay frame) kinesis crosslight pro 3 that is pure race
spent the money on some tubs (still 2nd hand though) rest of bits were from an old road bike.
is winning races in our league on a standard planet x xls which is £999 with planet x

Good point and good to know that will buy me something raceable.

On paper how does the Planet X stand or would the On One Dirty Disco be a better bet?
I believe the xls has racier geometry than the dirty disco
whatever you buy i would give wheels/tyres a lot of thought and go for tubs or tubeless, yes there will be a few people racing on clinchers but they will have to use way higher tyre pressures to avoid pinch flats and have less grip and more rolling resistance.
