Apologies, there is too much crap out there so thought I'd ask the fountains of knowledge.

So say a bike or frame costs the equivalent of £2000 excluding vat from Spain, what extra costs would there be?

UK vat at 15% obviously but what else apart from delivery charges?

UK Vat is 20%

There will be import duty (iirc frame ~ 4%, bike ~14%)

edit oh, and a handling fee from the courier company

It's 20% VAT, not 15%.

And you'll typically pay the 20% VAT plus any handling charge from the courier.

For instance, I had a frame come from Madrid earlier this year, cost in Euros was 2485 - VAT was £439 which works out to 20% of £2200, plus an £11.50 brokerage charge, this was with UPS.

So, at £2000 you'll be looking at £400 plus £20 or so depending on courier.

Edit, there may have been a 4% fee included but it wasn't details in my import charges, expect 20-25% on top and you'll be OK.

Thx guys.

Shows my poor research 20 not 15! They're still thieving buggers though.

Sadly it is making it very hard to justify the risks, especially for an unseen and ridden frame.

By 'they' I guess you mean 'we' don't you? 😉 'We' spend it (or have it spent on us), not 'them'.

15% vat 😁

Have you been living under a rock since 2009.

You should be charged 20% vat 4.7% import fees and whatever fee the handler charges around £12-15.

You may be charged more as border force seem to make some numbers up and you have to pay it and reclaim back any overpayments.

Or you may not incur any fees, only loser there is UK PLC as that's less taxes into the pot to pay for stuff. Not entirely sure who the thieving buggers are here?

Worth it.

I'm 98% sure they're made by the Waltly plant, as per many other Ti frames.

Don't forget to add the carriage charge to the cost of the frame before working out the VAT....
