@Jeffs, that 5 mile climb at Inners is a killer. I was there a few weeks back and we had a head wind all the way to where your photo is. Epic fun going down the other side though 😀 Enjoy your riding up there, not jealous at all.
DeeW - I've just kinda given up watching the availability on the on one site. Hopefully my Blue Medium will be here as soon as possible. I am absolutely fizzing for it's arrival.! I've had multiple order confirmations containing that big long complicated list of components via email through though which is slightly confusing. Fingers crossed it all works out and I'm rolling ASAP.
It's a middle-ring climb...
Must have been the 263 mile, four and a half hour drive there in the morning, then Glentress, Then onto Innerleithen in the afternoon, with a head wind all the way to the top that did it. 🙄
Can anyone tell me how big a rear rotor the frame is rated for? Running 180 front/160 rear airotor with xt brakes. Like to put on xt rotors 180 front/rear for more stopping power as reckon airotors are a bit push for plummeting downhill.
It'd be some sort of amazing brain fart if the frame can't take a 180
180 rear is fine.
It'd be some sort of amazing brain fart if the frame can't take a 180
Yeah that's what I thought. But something tells me I should ask...
Anyone who's gone tubeless on the stock build - what rim tape width did you use on the Pacentis?
Anyone who's gone tubeless on the stock build - what rim tape width did you use on the Pacentis?
I had some 25mm stans tape left that worked for me. Went up a treat too. 🙂
have put my order in for this little beauty in blue...
after looking all year for a 29er that ticks all the boxes.
I almost hit the button on a cube stereo HPC 140 race blue black.
Then i remembered a friend talking about this bike last year and i thought i would see if it had been released yet and boom there it was. too me about 15mins to decide lol the video helped nail it.
The codeine ticked every one of my boxes can wait to hit the trails with it whoop whoop...
I dont have any experience of the CCDB air so i checked out there site and looked for a base setup but couldnt find one. Does anyone know if On One will be submitting one for the database. Also has anyone got any comments on the stock shock settings?
Another question around tubeless on the stock tyres is it an option?
cheers
Yaka (MTBGuisborough)
I'm loving mine more each ride 😀
I set my shock up as Titus El-Guapo base tune and it works great ... On one are hopefully sorting out a base tune ..
Yes the stock tyres work very well tubeless and very easy to set up !!
Winch and Plummet indeed 😀 😀
plus one,
Thanks for letting me have a sit on yours on Friday! Really looking forward to getting mine! Frustrating having seen yours and another 2 this weekend (including a large), but it did mean I was one of only 4 hardtails on the hill this weekend. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your ride!
thanks for the reply plus one glad your feeling the love out there. Any action cam footage yet?
I am 6ft 2in and have long arms and legs so i just hope loads that the large is big enough for me...
Frood .... No worries 😀
Your darn quick downhill on that hardtail 😯
You'll be a rocket on the codeine 😀
Simon2490... Can't afford a cam spent all my cash on the codeine 😉
Really liking the look of the codeine and the geometry but I am debating on med or large I am 5'11 and would prefer the top length of the large but not sure if seat tube length would be to big and standover would I be better on the medium, any help appreciated.
Does this work as a trail bike, or is it more focused on enduro i.e. racing? My riding mostly consists of trail with weekend all mountain rides, so something like a Specialized Enduro 29 would be OTT most of the time. Think I can build one @28.5lbs (with pedals and dropper), so in the ballpark weight wise.
warren i ride lots of trail stuff all year round and i took the decision it would be fine for all riding! (i too looked at the enduro spesh and case to same conclusion. If you can put a good build around 28lbs then that will fit everything but maybe not XC racing...i am sure guys already riding out there will update you as well.
I'm 5' 11 and the medium is bang on (I'm all legs with shorter upper) someone earlier in thread had same dilemma bought a medium and put a 70mm stem on I think ?
Done few rides on mine including couple of 3hr jaunts and I'd happily ride it longer on more xc/ish stuff
Thanks Simon. I'd like something that can easily handle Wales/FoD/alps but is still fun when I ride my local trails, which at the end of the day are more about rolling singletrack than anything overly steep/technical. The short(ish) CS and light(ish) weight suggests it could be pretty nimble/poppy, rather than a point and shoot bike.
Thanks Plus One - it's sounding really really good. I'm 5'8 1/2 with long arms and body but 30cm legs....usually happy on a medium with seat dropped and short stem. I'm looking at a medium Codeine as I think the short top tube will not agree with my Neanderthal dimensions....maybe need a trip to Sheffield!
Must admit they look great in the flesh but I'm not sure its going to work with 30cm legs!
I have no idea how you'd build a frame of this weight with 29er wheels into a 28lb bike without putting some inappropriately weedy parts on it! My Spitfire frame is a bit lighter, has 27.5 wheels and weighs over 31lbs.
a 28.5lb codeine? - easy, any bike with xt cranks is automatically under 30lbs.
foam grips and tubeless, everyone knows that'll shift the last 1.5lb!
Finally got to ride mine properly today for 4 hours round Gwydyr's finest cheekyness.Stuck some offset bushes in it as well as lower/slacker is always betterer (and it is too 😀 ).
Daren't weigh mine but it sure as hell isn't 28.5lb and I can't really imagine wanting to ride one specced so it was!
daveh - yep, 30cm legs would probably blow it for me, think I meant 30" 🙂

so, a whopping 15ml's of sealant for each tyre?
those punctures won't know what's hit them! 🙂
Yes, I guessed at some that number.....which is why I posted my list is a sanity check. I haven't weighed the sprockets but loosing 2 would probably counter the extra latex liquid. Tyres could also go up a couple of hundred grams each for more rock protection. PS. My aim was to see what weight the bike would be using parts I already have + my choice of parts I would need to complete the build...not to simply make it as light as possible.
What wheelset that weighs 1451g is there that's suitable for a bike like this?
Building one of these, as an 8+lbs frame (with shock) to 28.5lbs with suitable parts is probably impossible, unless your planning on running XC race tyres on it. Oh, and how are you going to pedal it? 😉
Building one close to 30 is a fair achievement considering the frame weight.
What is the wheelset Warren?
The only ones I can see at that weight are £1000 xcish (which is fine for me as I only weigh 58kg), or perhaps you've got plans for a light-bicycle carbon set?
Considering the full build offered by on-one is only just over 30lb (if it had the promised X01 cranks ) with lots of scope to lose some off bars/stem/wheels/saddle (but it obviously has one of the lightest drivetrains), then I can see 29lb being doable.
30.6 without pedals though. Add another pound on for those. Same as the spec above.
I'd be amazed if you can build a light bike 29" wheelset suitable for this bike for 1450g. My carbon wheelset for my Enduro29 weighed considerably more and didn't last longer than 6 months before both rims were wrecked.
The best value wheels are 1540g (I was planning on using carbon rims)..I buy them from here c http://www.actionsports.de/en/wheels/wheelset-specials/mtb-disc-29er/4230/dt-swiss-240s-disc-is-atmosphere-sl-comp-race-laufradsatz-29er-1540g?c=401 already use a set on my 26er and they have been amazing - wide & light rims and DT Swiss everything else.
Still quite a bit more than the 1451 in your spreadsheet and is that without axles?
So an XC wheelset then?
20mm i/d is not wide, in fact quite the opposite. Those wheels would last 5 minutes if you even remotely used the bike as intended.
Anyone can build a light bike out of inappropriate parts. Hell, I reckon I could build my Nomad under 25lbs if I used XC bits. It would be rubbish.
And you still haven't put any pedals on it 😉
Alex Simon - that is where I started thinking this could be a sub 30lb all rounder i.e. put light parts where you know reliability isn't a problem and lose a pound or so from stock build (and yes, I would also save 150g using X01 cranks rather than X1....sorry, had to bring it up again)
Hob Nob - as per my build, I listed tyres at 850g each, so not exactly lightweight XC and not much of a problem swapping tyres out for more DH orientated duties if you thought it was needed. On the wheelset, I understand that stiff and strong is more important that lightness when using the wagon wheels but you can do strong and light if you're willing to use specialist builders rather than the big brands.
Hob Nob - sorry, didn't explain myself clearly. I listed this wheelset as an example but mentioned swapping rims out for carbon AM rims. My 26 er rims from same retailer uses 30mm wide AM rims, with DT Swiss 240 hubs and aerolight spokes - they are light, strong and stiff and I've not had an issue with them (used on my Banshee Wildcard, Cannondale Jekyll Carbon and now my hardtail).
I'm probably not the person to speak to about carbon MTB rims, considering my past experiences with them, but nevertheless, I'd still be amazed if you can build a wheelset close to that weight that's suitable.
I built a 650b wheelset based on a 430g rim, using DT Revs on DT 240s hubs with a. XD driver (lighter than a normal freehub) and it still came out just over 1600g. Most 29" carbon rims you would want to use for a bike like this are around the 450g mark. I don't think it's possible to build a reliable wheelset for much lighter that's capable of some abuse.
Thanks for the advice, I haven't yet tried out any of the carbon rims that are (apparently) designed for AM use but thought that was the way to go for stiff + light. Just looking at Light Bicycle 30mm HD carbon @420g each, so yep, that puts a wheelset in the 1600g range unless you go for a lighter hub (e.g. DT Swiss 180).
I would also save 150g using X01 cranks rather than X1....sorry, had to bring it up again
Is X1 really that heavy? SLX/XT is 760g and X01 GXP is 700g if X1 is 850g then it sounds a bit crap.
655g vs 800g from what I remember frosty. Carbon arms on the XX1 and X01
Mine out of box with me fitting xt pedals was nudging 32lbs ... Fitting my carbon bars and setting up tubeless it was 30.4lbs
If your really concerned with weight I suggest this isn't the bike for you 😉
I'm a self confessed weight weenie/whippet type but this is an out and out play/trail/enduro(or whatever the current buzz word is)
Picking the bike up you indeed feel the heft but once rolling and climbing I could be on a bike at 25lbs it really climbs that well 😀
oops! just pressed the button on a blue one
There's a bloke test riding a blue one on the road outside right now 🙂
Plus One - "If your really concerned with weight I suggest this isn't the bike for you"...can't say I am weight obsessed, probably was a little 5 years ago but realised a 26lb all mountain bike doesn't necessarily mean you will go faster, though a 32lb 130mm bike isn't necessarily ground breaking either 😉
Might look at the Stumpy Evo 29, as the Codeine frame isn't available until mid-August anyway....hope you get out and enjoy yours, will keep reading this thread for updates!
I looked at the stumpy evo too but big drop in spec and similar claimed weight swung me back to codeine ..
Got mine built up last night. Couple of quick rides today and very promising. It's not light but pedals very well despite just setting to the guapo tube without extra fiddling. Not sure I have the time/patience to play around with the shock settings. We do really need someone who knows their suspension to give us some base settings..
One problem I came across was fitting a chain guide. Got a Truvativ XO guide (MRP G2) and the chain is too far inboard (32t ring on XTR M970 chain set middle ring position, one 2.5mm spacer drive side on BB). Never going to work with the offset 30t ringmaster NW ring I've also bought. Anyone had better luck with a chain guide?

We are running MRP guides on some of the team bikes, on various cranks, without issues.
I can get more details when Crossland is back from his jollies on Monday.
Some nice bikes here! I've just put some wide carbon LB 29er rims on my Hope straight pull wheelset, they came out just over 1700g with 2.0/1.8 spokes. I can't image a strong set of wheels in the 1400g range!
And the difference between x9/x1 and xo1/xx1 is under 100g AFAIK.
Right then enough of the talk about 100gram weight savings, I'm currently on a kona coiler that weighs 38pounds !! what I really want to hear is honest opinions of how it rides as my finger is hovering over the buy button!!
I'm now pretty settled with my settings.
17mm sag,hsc 1/2turn,lsc 10 clicks,hsr 2 turns,lsr 16 clicks.
It's on the side of plush/stuck to ground and if going 'gnarlcore' I'd probably up hsc a 1/2 turn and possibly run a little less sag.
Not had tyre/seat tube interface with the offset bushings.....yet.
+25mm on the tt and I reckon it'd be pretty much perfect. At least I know what size Nicolai ion15 to get now 8)

Honestly? It's dead stiff, manuals really nicely (which makes it enormous fun),quite heavy but does'nt feel it,could be longer but mainly because I'm tall and want to run a 35mm stem and pedals well enough that I embarrassed a load of roadies (up a 12% gradient) on the way to the trails this morning.
My Yelli was the best bike I've ever owned (still is).The codeine is like a fs version of it.
It rides uphill great and a total hoot on way back down 😀
Here's me grinning like a fool on mine
Excuse retro top it's how I roll 😆

Cheers for setting Rorschach I'll have a tinker 😉
Anyone in the south west got one I could sit on? or do I have to make a three hour pilgrimage to Sheffield? On another point could Brant make another magical appearance on here and tell me if my considerable 15.5 stone bulk would overpower this awesome looking bike?
15.5 stone is fine.
Read how people commend it for its stiffness. That's what you need. We have it.
Thanks for the help Brant, looks like I'm gonna be making a long drive to Sheffield at the weekend then 😀
Call first. Check availability of models to sit on.
In that case Brant at 5ft 10 and30inch inside leg what size would you put me on? I might just trust my instincts and buy without riding same as i did with my summer reason and my armadillo both of which have been great fun!!
I've got a medium. Sheffield local but taking my Codeine with me down to Bristol next week (training week with work but looking at getting out most evenings). Happy for you to have a go if you're near bristol.
Thanks very much for the offer, l might take you up on it if i haven't already put hovering finger to buy button. Finger getting very heavy now 😮
So mine turned up, the finish looks superb - pics dont do it justice, fetch the tissues.... uh....uh.... back in the room, is there a base tune anyone can recommend? Been on the CC website and it all looks very promising, would be nice to have a starting point...
Mines been "in picking" for what seems like an age! You lot are all teasing me with these updates!
Hi there DeeW, would indeed like to take you up on your offer of a sit on your lovely steed if the offer is still there.I only live 15 miles from Bristol near the Mendips, where are you planning on riding? Nige.
Are there any codeine - cane creek db air basic setup recommendations yet? I got some advices from Wayne (Planet x Customer Service):
HiHear are the setting that one of our codeine team uses for down hill enduro

Any other Suggestions?
Any recommendations for a new bar? Race Face SIXC 780mm?
Any toughts?
So codeine owners, did yours come with the CCDB tool? I've just opened the box and mine doesn't have one.
I never got a tool .. Never knew there was one ??? I just used a spanner 🙂
Cool, there's a little trail adjustment tool, wasn't sure whether it came with or was a separate buy. Yodel appeared to have been inspired by the world cup and kicked the box around the depot and it had a couple of holes, was just making sure nothing had gone missing.
I'd love to know when we can get replacement rear mech hangers.
I'd love to know when we can get replacement rear mech hangers.
Our system shows 19th August. I think we can get them here faster than that.
My full build Codeine came with rear mech cable routed under the bottom bracket, and hanging quite a long way down, too. I want to change this.
Just checked on the Planet X site and the bike there looks like it has more sensible routing. Can anyone post a close up of a better routing?
Also, anyone added a bash guard to the X1 chain set? If so, which?

That is the production routing. We have run it other ways, but that is the cleanest rub free way of doing it.
Mine's doing the Mega (plus 4 days riding beforehand) in a couple of weeks time. Brant: any chance there is a spare hanger somewhere?
For routing mine goes inbetween the non-drive swing arm a non-drive BB shell: really neat though there is a bit of rub on the CNCed section above the BB.
Can anyone tell me if the DBair is the one with the climb switch?
Its not.
No climb switch, but really does not need one on this frame. Pedals brilliantly: very little bob.

Some are being air freighted as we speak.
@DeeW
Thanks for the routing advice. Mine's off to the Alps next week.
A couple of years back in the Alps a friend's brake hose, which went under the bottom bracket on his Specialized, was severed. Never seemed a sensible place for any cable or hose to me.
Brant: please let us know ASAP about those hangers. Could do with one by Friday to take away...
I know the Codeine isn't really a long xc ride type bike but it never stopped me doing just that today ..
4hrs 10m 1900m of climbing 38 miles not a problem ...
Lots of top descents though 🙂
