I have an eye on some Halo wheels. They are 10mm QR so as above will they fit my old school 135mm QR drop outs on on Arkose gravel bike? Any down sides like the wheel being harder to get in?
Only downside I find is that the wheel doesn't "rest" in the frame, so you have to hold it in position while you slide the axle in. Doesn't take much getting used to though and I find there's less need to pull the derailleur out of the way so hands/gloves stay cleaner!
I use 10mm DT RWS skewers in 135 spaced Cotic’s and previously ran a Superstar 10mm QR with a 135 Zesty, all with Hope or DT hubs and suitable endcaps.
Yep, the extra skewer ‘meat’ is taking up the space that would be the bit of a QR endcap that sat in the dropout, so you need to keep one hand on the wheel while sliding the bolt through the drops and it’s much easier with bike upside down although possible right way up in a stand. So far as I’m concerned, that’s it for negatives unless having a stiffer back end wrecks your perception of the frame (some do find this). IMO the additional wheel installation difficulty is a non issue and common to most designs post-5mm QR. Once the axle bolt is through it’ll sit there just like a QR skewer would.
While I note this question is related to singlespeed, it’s worth throwing in that if using 10mm TA’s with Hope hubs and SRAM XD freehubs, the endcap is different to the Shimano unit and will ‘fit’ but jam the FH in a similar way to forgetting the washer behind the FH...
Front QR axles are 9mm, but rear are 10mm - so yes, it’ll fit.

Face palm. I thought they looked fatter?
One question, though, as a former user of the Superstar 10mm QR: why do you want to remove the end nut? It's basically a big fat QR, so you should* be able to flip the QR lever open and drop the wheel out. I was using it SS and geared on a Scandal with Pro 2 Evo hub - the 10mm QR basically gave everything a bit more security and could be levered closed with a bit more oomph as well...
* Unless I'm reading it all wrong or the mech bolt fouled the dropout a little, as happens on a couple of my frames with Maxle dropouts.
