Hello I have been looking at these bags on flea bay seem very well priced.anyone use one for bivvy nights?.i was wondering what would be best as a 3/4 season and what the weight/pack sizes is like.ideally would want it to go in a 12litre dry bag and into a revelate saddle bag.

I have a Softy and have slept out in most conditions in it without being cold. It's not massively 'packable' but kneeling on the compression sack can get it down to about the size of a football.

Not terribly light either but I can live with that for the price.

Another softie owner here, had it years (about 10), abused it through Scouts, DoE, and long distance hikes. As above they're well put together, and for the money, damn good value. However, they really don't pack down too small, especially for the higher season bags. A work around is to buy a season less and a silk liner (which almost gets the season you've lost on the bag back).

I've got a Travelpack Extreme, which seems to be equivalent to the newer Travelpak 2... It's well made, good value etc but I think the cold ratings are pretty optimistic, it's supposed to be comfortable to 2 degrees but not for me. Not small but not too bulky.

Oh, it had an annoying sewn in insect net which wasn't a bad idea but didn't pack away well and was pretty uncomfotrable- good idea but poorly executed imo, I cut it out.

I was looking at them, but checking them out in the shop I thought they were too large when packed.

I got a Robens Caucasus 300 down bag for £80 online.
Much smaller and comes in its own drybag.
3 season bag, just under 1kg

Softie range is superb, have owned a 3, 6 and 9 for various things over the years

I've got a 9 which I'll be using in Scotland in a couple of weeks, got it for doing Polaris events years ago but as already said, doesn't pack down so small. It goes fine into my Alpkit 13 ltr dry sack which will be strapped to a seatpost mounted rack.

Softie owner too. Warm on most nights. When it is a little colder, that with a goretex bivvie bag and a decent mat, job done.
