walked up to watch sunrise with Mrs this morning 4.30 start. Surprised by varying bikes and riders on the mountain. Plenty of well equipped folk on decent bikes as expected but some folk looking well out of their depth including:- a stoner on an electric motor bike...zero pedalling going on there! A few people on chainstore cheapo specials in trackies and trainers most scarily about 6 of them had no helmets.... is it just me that thinks this is crazy?
Pictures of the view would be nice.
Would do if I had the first clue how to... it was beautiful tho!

You’re over estimating the risk. Maybe if there were 600 one of them might get a serious injury. Maybe it takes 6000. Six will be a safe bet for all being just fine.

Good for them. Sounds like us when we started 'going biking' around Peckforton Gap and Raw Head in Cheshire.
That’s a cool thing to do - Snowden sunrise. I’m on the fence about the rest of the shenanigans.
Remember, years ago mountain bikers didnt wear helmets. I started riding without one and only wore one to do XC races. I think our perception of risk is altered by safety equipment sometimes.
Like wearing seatbelts, clearly we’ve all just become molly coddled and soft.
So all those non-enthusiast riders were aware enough and motivated enough to be observing the voluntary bike ban and were up there by dawn?
That's pretty cool and redeems their elicit e-bike / dubious helmet choices in my eyes!

Totally agree, WTF are poor people doing out mountain biking. Did you get your butler to shoo them away?
Know your place peasants.
Some weird views on this place.. butlers eh? I'm a valley's boy only butler I've known was Claude. Perhaps I'm overly safety conscious having a MBL qualification but knowing the technical requirements of the descent I have concerns for newbies on poor quality bikes... rigid bikes and cheapo imitation v brakes have their limitations over that terrain...the lack of helmet exacerbates this. We ran off the mountain some of the people we passed lower down would never have made the cut off even if the were aware of it. I've ridden the mountain a few times starting in 1992 on an Alpinestars pre v brakes and even with a couple of years experience it was a scary descent in places!
I reckon Snowden probably sees more walkers with head injuries than MTBers.
Maybe all the walkers up there should be wearing walking helmets. Especially those ones in sandals and T-shirts who don't even own any Patagonia or Arc'teryx.
They definitely need a sign at the bottom saying something like.
"Only good quality bikes such as those from Santa Cruz, and only disk brakes allowed, absolutely no poor people bikes"
Since when did people look down on those that can't afford thousands on a bike.

If I’m reading this right you did it on some early nineties piece of crap with canti’s (at best) but these guys shouldn’t be doing the same but with v’s?
Christ there are some contrary people on this thread.
My mate was up 2weeks ago and there where bikers on the mountain at 2pm.
You'll always get all sorts on Snowdon. Same way you'll always get the flip flop brigade on Ben Nevis.
Only saving grace on a BSO I doubt youd get fast enough to really hurt yourself.
First time I rode up Snowdon I didn't even own a helmet.
Maybe the mountain has changed since 1988 and it's now unsafe without one though.
