I'm staying with my family in Harlech in Mid May. My mum's birthday. I'll be bringing my bike though to get away 🙂
I've ridden the trail centres around there, what else should I do? Snowdon? or are there better rides without the big name I should be looking at doing? Can probably sneak out for 2 4/5 hour rides during the trip without upsetting the family.
Given that I live in the Alps, I'm not shy of hike a bike or tech descents.
Will be bringing my Orange Five - so I fit in unnoticed 😉
And if anyone fancies a ride, I'll be solo and more than happy to return the favour if you're out Morzine way - no guiding regulations where favours are concerned!
Will be there 7th to 13th May inclusive.
Nice one,
Guy
There's a nice ride out there I want to do called Pont Scethin. Or CYB?
Snowdon is definitely worth the effort IMO. We did it the weekend before last and enjoyed it immensely.
There have been a rash of threads about it lately so it might be worth searching for Snowdon and Rangers (path) to see if you fancy it.
Don't forget the Snowdon bike ban though: No bikes 10am-5pm 1st May to 30th Sep.
2nd the Pont Scethin route - quite short and exposed but some great descents. And views if your lucky 🙂
Snowdon bike ban = Good excuse to set off at 3.30pm anyway but push.
I'd have been happy to have had an excuse not to ride the first part of that climb.
I rode rangers recently and I'm looking forward to having another crack at it.
do an internet search for "cowlyyd loop" a decent ride although can be a bit of a grueller if there's been a lot of rain. Can be turned into an epic by tagging the marin trail onto it
nice one - cheers for the advice - so plan to set off from the top at 9am to be sure of not riding past 10am - allowing puncture time, faff time etc. So a 7am start from the van. nice.

This is the way I last rode that route - remote and technically challenging riding above the lake shore

The VG book does it in the other direction which I expect is good too.
If it's a nice day expect the paths up to be fairly busy at 9am unless you can go mid week out of holiday/bank holiday time. This will be less of an issue using the ranger route as Telegraph valley tends to be very quiet and speeds on the ranger are generally lower.I've done it later in the day before and tends to be very clear coming down. Leave at 5 and you'll be back before 8.
If you do set off before 5 with your bike make sure you do walk not ride, I know the guy who was part of the set up of the ban rather than a downgrade to footpath and it's still a sensitive issue.
Top day out though.
Yep - the route simon1975 links to is a cracker on a nice day. I did it the other way round which seemed to work well and was 90% rideable with some good DHs but horses for course I guess
Loads of really nice routes over Conwy Mountain. Dinorwic slate Quarry is ace and can be linked with a circuit of Moel Y Ci.
The Bikefax guidebook is excellent, loads of good rides in there.
Of to Llanberis this weekend, planning to do the Sarn Helen route from the Ugly House at Betwys, the Marin again and possibly CYB, can't wait tbh!
