...how much of this would be ridable compared to the llanberis path?
A fair bit, but there would be a lot of pushing and carrying at the top too. A chunk of the bottom two thirds or so would be mostly doable.
Very, very little. Only done it once (descending) and the weather wasn't great, but it was pretty gnarly to come down - no built path like the Llanberis until maybe the last 10%. Mostly it was about smashing through big loose rocks. Its harder than the Ranger Path.
I'd take a punt at maybe 25% rideable up? Llanberis on a non-windy day and with my head right, I reckon I could ride most of, except the steep steppy bit up to Cloggy Station.
very little, you'd be better going up Rangers.
First weekend after the end of the ban we did this route:
Up Rangers - down Rhyd Ddu - up Rangers to Telegraph - Llanberis path - down Rangers.
That's the best "non-standard" route I've done on Snowdon.
Rangers is not a long carry and soon over-with.
I'd have thought a bit more than that if you're fit, but it would mostly be scrappy little bits, you'd have to keep getting off to carry up stuff. Long time since I've been up it though.
OK cheers
Anyone ever ridden down the South ridge?
The South Ridge is a great scrambly walk. I wouldn't take a bike up there. Down Rhyd Ddu would be a much better plan.
Can't imagine riding up Rangers for much of it's length other than the flattish bits at the bottom and the final climb to the railway line.
I did Ecky Thumps route back in April. Rangers is rideable from the bottom up to the techy bit, then it's a carry up to the top of the hairpins, but it's mostly rideable from then on up, weather dependent. If it's windy (when isn't it, up there?), that'll cause more issues than the trail itself.
