Thinking about going in a couple of weekends time, done the rangers before but cannot remember much about it. That would have been on a 120mm 26" HT without a dropper and now will be on a 160mm rocket with dropper so looking forward to it.
Rangers or Rhyd-ddu down, which would be your pick? both look fun.
Rhys du as never done it. Rangers or at least the bottom half if you’re not going down the Telegraph Valley way has been resurfaced/totally ruined. Actually just ride Drum if you haven’t done it far more fun.
Rangers is the classic, but I've done it a few times so I'd be tempted to give Rhyd Ddu a blast. Some sections would be brilliant, others less so - I reckon Rangers would be a better overall experience.
I also wouldn't fancy doing down the Rhyd Ddu if you've climbed from Llanberis, it's quite a schlep round. Though I guess you could ride back up the bottom of the Rangers and down Telegraph.
The loose plan was to park at the bottom of rangers, up to telegraph to Llanberis to ascend the tourist path.
Sunday 28th in the evening.

Is that Drum by Conwy or is there another one? I did it a few years back and it was fun, but pretty much doubletrack all the way iirc?
Yep by Conwy always found lots of small hit jumps on first half descent then bottom half heading gown the electric lines is just flat out fun. Snowdons too busy.
This gives you a flavour of the Rhyd Ddu. Don't be fooled by the preamble, they did want to do the Ranger, but...

Cool. Yeah I'm not knocking it, I loved the ride but it's a very different experience to Snodwon.
Certainly is. Flat out from summit to sea level and rarely anyone in the way. It’s a different ride/vibe/feel but much better for me and what I like though I do ride each one once a year.
That video looks harder than the Ranger Path - nuts trying to bike across that ridge in the wind they clearly were battling!
Did Rhyd Dddu and Rangers in a day* a couple of years ago. Was fairly miserable weather and RD was a pretty intense reminder about mountain riding straight off the top station.
The exposed bit isn't really rideable, but after that it's all doable, although there is a slimy gully part way down (about 17mins into that vid) that's more about luck than skill. Otherwise its mostly just smashing through big rocks. Never really got a flow going down it, although that partly was having got a bit rattled by the combo of the wind, rain and lack of grip on wet slate at the top. Need to go and do it again when I can see what's going on!
(*Up Rangers, down RD, up first bit of Rangers, Telegraph Valley, Llanberis Path, down Rangers)
Rhyd Ddu is a considerably more technical and committing route that Rangers. The latter I rode early in my MTB "career" on a low travel 26er and only had to push for about 10 feet. The Rhyd ddu pah has the ridge which is genuinely unrideable and the part before it fro the summit down which will test even the best Gnarrrcore rider. Then comes a great fast bit that gets a bit rockier towards a gate and then it just turns into a monster grass-covered rock garden that demands speed and commitment in equal measure to clear without stacking. The bottom part is pretty tasty too until it joins some old double track and a quick buzz to the road. We parked there at Rhyd Ddu station, road down the valley to the start of Rangers, up that a bit and then over and down Telegraph and back up the Llanberis path. A really great day out.
Yeh I think maybe I'll stick with the rangers. Thanks all. Anyone wanna come with?
