So the rear shock (RS Monarch Plus HV RC3) on the Mega needed a service.
Took the opportunity to upgrade the air can to the Debonair version whilst I was at it - all good, went well and was feeling pleased with myself.
And then it went a bit wrong.....
Decided that as I was giving it the once over I should check the IFP pressure seeing as I have the correct adapter for my shock pump.
Unscrewed the cover for the valve and a short hiss of air came out - which seemed odd, but never mind let's carry on.
Attached adapter to pump before attaching to the valve - went to put adapter on valve and then all air escapes and adapter pops off - bugger!!
Tried a couple of times to get the adapter back on and it just wouldn't seat - even bigger bugger.....
Tried another couple of times and the resigned myself to the possibility of having to send it off and pay to get it sorted - but noted that J-Tech have no availability until Mid April - triple bugger!!
Anyway, after sulking and telling myself I was an idiot to push it whilst it was going so well I had a coffee and then I had a brain wave!
Why had there been a release of air when I unscrewed the cap?
And why wouldn't the adapter go on?
10 seconds with a valve key and all sorted - looks like the valve core had unscrewed partially when the cover was removed. Adapter screwed on all the way and pumped back up to 250PSI, pressure held and all good - back on bike and working fine.
Could have gotten expensive - but lesson learnt, always check the valve cores are tight before attaching a pump!
Good recovery Mav!
