Our nephew's snapped his specialized 🙄. it's well under 2 years old & he's the original owner. What're his chances of getting a new frame/ bike under warranty? He's only 14, don't have a job & is gutted 😞. He's dropping it off at Evans on Monday . Are specialized good with warranties? Tia 😊
Yep. He should be fine.
They used to be one of the best. I can vouch for that from personal experience. Then they reigned in their goodwill quite considerably but I still think they are better than many of the boutique brands *cough cough evil cough cough*.
As long as the nephew hasn't been doing anything silly on the bike he should get it sorted if its only two years old.
How did it snap? (just curious)
As long as its not obviously crash damaged it should be fine.
Specialized do have a good reputation. One of the best at standing by their product, and one of many good reasons to buy one. Fingers crossed but he should be fine. Most likely a frame replacement rather than a full bike, but supply might be an issue right now. Keep us posted.
BTW - cheeky ask but if he is 14 and has grown in the last 2 years it might be worth sizing up. No skin off Specialized's nose if they give you a different size.
There might, of course, be supply chain issues for the next few months. Hope he gets sorted.
Cheers guys. He was on the way home after riding the Malvern hills. He dropped off a kerb & the seat stay broke. I've lent him my Kona shred for the mo. The bikes 11 months old. He got it for his birfday last August. I hope he gets a replacement, mtbing is his life 😞
Shouldnt be a problem at all. I have had replacements from Specialized and were spot on .
Yeah shouldn't be an issue, Spesh were kind enough to replace a carbon rim that I'd dinged myself through sheer idiocy. They just sent a new one to my LBS, no questions asked. Superb customer service.
That's excellent 😊. Thanks guys 😊
Snapping a Specialized is a rite of passage. Welcome to the club.
Mine was 5 years old and second hand when it went, and was replaced without question.
Specialized frames come with lifetime warranty for the original owner
They have one of the best warranty policies out there
Things may take a little while to sort as they are all working from home at the moment but they will get it sorted
Now that's interesting about the rim because I broke a Specialized/Roval carbon one a while back. Took 3 months of messing about by them to get what clearly should have been a warranty issue finally sorted, at my expense. Must be said everyone else says good things about them but they lost a long time customer with that one.
"dropped off a kerb".... 🙂
When I worked in bike shops years ago this was always the "just riding along" excuse attached to the worst abused broken piles of debris that were brought in for warranty claims by the local yoofs, usually a few days after they'd been spotted trying out a particularly ambitious gap jump in the woods behind Nationwide. Not saying that's happened here obviously, but I bet the shop mechanics will have a chuckle to themselves!
That said, Specialized used to be amazing with warranty claims, pretty much no questions asked. Made a few myself "just riding along....." Hope they still follow the same model of customer service.
Can confirm exactly what has been said above specialized are usually very good with warranty.
Also the bit about "riding off a curb" pretty much every broken bike I used to have back when I worked in a bike shop was "just ridden off a curb" when the parents were stood there while the kid was looking sheepish keeping his mouth shut 😂
Once had a kids dad kicking off big time that his kids entry level hardtail had snapped a mech hanger or something for "only riding around the park" next day another kid was in the shop and told me his mate was in yesterday with his bike he broke casing one of the big jumps at Cwmcarn.
One kid I remember just came in on his own without his parents and said "I tried a massive jump, crashed and this bit fell off my fork please don't tell my dad" so we got it fixed out of some spare bits for him because he was so honest.
riding the Malvern hills
Some of the Malvern stone kerbs are pretty gnarly, dude..

Were you with him at the time? Because someones telling porkies and its one of two people. 😉
As cliche as it sounds, my mate snapped his Whyte G170 riding of a kerb, we think the damage was done earlier in the day and he was just lucky it went where it did!
Had someone once come in with his 'mates' bike for warranty, big chunky bike with front wheel nearly touching downtube due to obvious casing a jump. Somehow footage of him stacking on a set of doubles was found and no warranty was forthcoming. JRA obviously claimed......

So true!
"He was just riding along....no, he doesn't do any stunting or jumps or anything like that, do you Billy?"
*Billy stares at his shoes, hoping he could disappear in to the floor somehow*
Pretty sure that's what happened to our nephew's one captain flashheart. He does go for it 😬. He's not really that much of a jumper, more of a " get down there as fast as he can" kind of guy. I'm really hoping he gets a replacement. He's tried getting a paper round, picking fruit, etc. But no one wants to employ a 14 year old 😞

We had that once with a big hardcore hardtail Kona. Obviously been slammed heavily into the front of a set of doubles.
Naturally we listened to the "just riding along" story... 😉
I think if he'd been honest then he might have managed a crash replacement price or something but pleading innocent and blatantly lying meant he got nothing.
I snapped a frame by rolling slowly into a tree at about 2 mph (it was ridiculously muddy, V-brakes were ineffective, couldn't really turn without risking landing flat in a pool of mud. Tapping the tree to stop and then re-pointing for the next direction of travel seemed like a reasonable plan). It does happen - though I figure the crash I'd had a week or so earlier might have had something to do with it.
What model of frame was it?
My point about the "just riding off a kerb" story is just be honest (to a degree) "I was out riding some trails but didn't notice anything happen or crash, then it broke on the way home" is a lot more likely to be believed than his mum "he only ever rides it up and down the road" whilst it's covered in mud etc
I snapped an Orange Ms Isle demo bike just riding along.
I think repeatedly dropping off a car roof prior to that was what killed it though, tbh.
Snapped a Marin downtube clean in half just riding through a g-out too. Again, previously repeatedly coming up short on a road gap was probably the main culprit.
JRAs are definitely a real thing, it's just that's not usually the moment you actually buggered it.
I've had great support from specialized in the past so I think your chances are good.
He's getting a new un on Thursday 😁. He's so excited ☺️
Great news, when it all goes wrong you cant fault their customer service and turn around time.
