not having much luck with my new (used) bike.
Clipped a tree hard tonight but kept riding although it was quite a whack.
Got to the bottom of the trail to find about half an inch of bar under the grip has sheared clean off.
The bars are too wide for the forest anyway.
Can i just saw off the same from the other side? There doesnt appear to be any other stress marks. Its a clean break.
Ive tried jumping my full weight on them to check and they haven't creaked or snapped.
Thoughts please...thanks a mil.
If they are rental bars ....can’t you just get a new set from the rental company?
are you sure that the bars snapped, rather than the grip slipping out over the bar? I would be extremely surprised if you could get the amount of force required through the end of a bar as you described, unless they were already damaged in some way already?
I'm with 5lab....if the bar has snapped so close to the end, i would expect the grip to be completely knackered too.
There goes your deposit.
Your grip has moved.
Quite right thanks all!
Silly me. The grip cracked hence the bar end looked a crazily clean snap.
The other grip also overhangs the bar by about an inch.
No wonder I thought they were stupidly wide bars!
Thanks for the help!
I hit a tree today too. It really hertz!

Must have resonated.
My Avis would be to keep a photo record of the "damage" so you dont get a nasty surprise "repair" bill later.
I hope you didn't pay much more than SiXT quid.
Budget bars, that's the answer.
Or, just be Thrifty and buy some on sale.
