Glorified name for muscle rolling with a foam roller.
Interested in opinions. Anybody do it or tried it?
No but basically "self deep tissue massage" - DTM works well 🙂
As a remedial therapist i don't regard applying foam roller pressure to tender points as myofascial release per se.
More a neuromuscular technique.
Anyone who has studied 'real' mfr [both direct and indirect modalities] will know where I am coming from on the pedant front.
Also,I think many of the touted positions using foam rollers are inherently unstable, which makes it decidedly tricky for non therapists, utilising computer generated net-savvy, to elicit much in the way of control.
Combine that with a general lack of global anatomical knowledge [root cause of many probs is often not at the site of pain] and i would advise seeing a sports related specialist qualified in bodywork matters.
I also have issues with the misguided idea that a 'treatment' [self-induced or otherwise] has to be painful to be effective.
My wife uses a foam roller on her ITB's as she has problems from running.
I tried it once and cried like a baby.
Not saying you might not get results tho.
she might be better served looking at possible causal factors re ITB.
- poor posterior glute med activation
-release adductors
-muscle imbalances up and down kinetic chain
etc...
thanks Podium - it's more of am historical thing, tbh, she suddenly increased her mileage and started doing intervals at the same time about 8 months ago. Her body couldn't cope.
She's done a marathon and a few halfs and 10k's since then without any problems - she does have the odd 'twinge' (when not running) but I think she does the roller 'just in case' now as much as anything.
Anyway, she's currently got a torn ligament in her foot so not much happening with the running...
I've heard loads of people struggling with Individual Throttle Bodies and running, but normally related to engines 😀
Right - if I am not actually in pain, is there any point in trying something like this? Would it just improve my performance or recovery in general?
