Bought a one-ride old Smith lid from one of my work colleagues. Although if fit him in the shop, he found there were uncomfortable pressure points on the sides of his forehead in use. I've not got that problem, but find the little rubbery wings at the very outsides of the adjuster really irritating after a bit, the parts circled in the pic below.

I know it's a small sample size but 100% of users have had an issue with this helmet! Is it a wider problem? Can I just cut off the rubbery fins? They appear to be injection moulded through holes in the little plastic frame rather than just pushed in.

I had this. It was a Smith Session that i ended up sending back. Its made worse by the MIPS system which clamps around your head circumference so the rubbery wings just end up digging into the back of your skull.

Sending back isn't an option, it's already second hand and apart from this issue I quite like it!

That's a good point about the MIPS liner, I could cut out some voids for them to settle in without affecting the function of it. 👍

(edit - that's not my helmet up there, just a photo I pinched off the 'net)

Can't say I've noticed them on mine, just looked and they're definitely there though (Forefront 2 mips). So I've little to add beyond its definitely a personal fit issue sorry.

I hope I don't have this issue as I've just ordered a Smith session.

I replaced mine with a Giro but that also has MIPS and although the silly rubber bits on the Smith were no longer an issue I do find i have to run the ratchet quite tight to keep the helmet where i want it. I think this is mainly due to MIPS helmets being totally smooth other than round the head circumference which gives no grip against my grade 3 crop, especially when a bit sweaty.

Don’t worry about it.

the pads will fall apart after a wash, good luck sourcing any more...

my session was comfy but the pads are crap and Smith customer service is terrible..

the shop I bought it from, a very well regarded place in the Peak weren’t interested in helping..

it’ll be great for a month or so....

I had the same issue but it was the Hard plastic edges rather than the rubber. It’s quite sharp so was digging in a fair bit.

I sanded them so they were more rounded and they have been fine since.
