Today I was knocked off the bike for the first time ever 🙁
I got away lightly with just a bruised and grazed elbow and sore neck. Someone pulled out on me at a roundabout, I was going straight over and she was coming of the right. I slammed on the brakes but jut skidded so instead turned to soften the impact of shoulder barging her door. I think I was in shock as I was very calm about it - she even thanked me for not punching her! Anyway I have her details and will be claiming for a replacement top and tights. Usual excuse of 'couldn't see you because of the sun' - well try stopping a looking more carefully if you can't see!
I think I'm fine and wasn't going to report it, or should I?
Better news is that during the ride I went over the 2000 mile mark for the year, and I just had a phone call to tell me that my new frame is in the paint shop being lacquered 😛

Always report accidents happen but the police and actual action will focus the mind

WTF was she doing pulling out at a roundabout if she cannot see?

Always report. You don't need to press charges, but they need to know cyclists are still being knocked over.

So if she came from the right, she had right of way?

Sorry - she entered the roundabout from the left - the adrenaline is obviously still flowing and my left and rights are confused!

Glad you're mainly ok OP.

FWIW I ride very slowly across roundabouts and eyeball anyone on the left, ready to stop if they pull out - waay to many people not looking properly or being impatient. not enough people seem to understand priority to the right!

Yes. And if you're injured, doubly so. If the adrenaline's flowing there's still a good chance you're body's going to chuck a surprise injury your way yet. 😉

Glad you're otherwise OK!

any motoring accident were someone is injured should be reported.

Also best to have a police reference for any insurance claim. Might not need it but good to know you have followed procedure correctly in case of any dispute.

+1

Nothing wrong with reporting it, police won't do anything but it makes sure that everything is on record and legit.

OK I'm off to the police station to report it - 101 told me I can't do it over the phone.
Thanks

Glad your ok.

But report it just incase of any future surprises..

A car went into back of my wifes car. The driver was full of appologies etc. She reported it to police at first, they told her unless there was an injury - then to just report it to insurance. There was no injury, so it went no further other than it being logged.
Until that is, about a year ater when the turd who drove into the back of her tried to claim for my wife supposedly driving into the back of him !!
Luckily she had a police incident number from the time she initially phoned it in. So the turd had alot of explaining to do ..

Also. I was knocked off my bike earlier this year. The driver of the car wrote down his details for me after the incident, because I was, as expected, a bit shook up.
When I later passed these onto the insurance company - I was told the drver was uninsured, because he had given me the wrong details.

Yep. Best to report it asap.

Glad you're relatively unscathed. From your username I'm guessing you're Bristol based? You might be interested to know that Bristol police recently signed up to the CTC Road Justice campaign, and the Chief Constable has apparently told his officers to be more sympathetic to cyclists when they report incidents, so hopefully you'll have a positive experience.
